1. A method of increasing the effectiveness of an antisense oligonucleotide to cleave a target molecule, comprising:

  • providing an antisense oligonucleotide comprising an RNase H activation region; and

    adding at least two adjacent universal bases to said oligonucleotide, wherein the addition of said universal bases increases the activity of RNAase H to cleave a target molecule.
