Abstract

An application service provider (ASP) and automated transaction machine method and system is provided. The method includes providing a plurality of individually accessible server side ATM applications through at least one ASP server. The method further includes enabling a plurality of ATMs to selectively access each server side ATM application through communication with the at least one ASP server. The method also includes performing services for the ATMs with the at least one ASP server responsive to the plurality of server side ATM applications.

Claims

1. An article bearing instructions executable by at least one computer in an ATM including a cash dispenser, wherein the instructions when executed by the at least one computer are operative to cause the ATM to access at least one ATM application including at least one document on a remote server, and to provide outputs from at least one output device on the ATM and to carry out at least one transaction function with the ATM responsive to the at least one document.

2. The article according to claim 1 wherein the instructions include then client software.

3. The article according to claim 1 wherein the at least one transaction function includes operating the cash dispenser to dispense cash from the ATM.

4. The article according to claim 1 wherein the ATM includes a depository for accepting items, and wherein the at least one transaction function includes accepting an item for deposit.

5. The article according to claim 4 wherein the at least one transaction function includes receiving a check.

6. The article according to claim 1 wherein the at least one transaction function includes dispensing pay.

7. The article according to claim 1 wherein the at least one transaction function includes paying a bill.

8. The article according to claim 1 wherein the at least one transaction function includes dispensing tickets.

9. The article according to claim 1 wherein the at least one transaction function includes outputting digital content through the ATM.

10. The article according to claim 1 wherein the at least one transaction function comprises providing a digital signature.

11. The article according to claim 1 wherein the at least one transaction function includes at least one gaming function.

12. The article according to claim 1 wherein the at least one transaction function includes outputting marketing information.

13. The article according to claim 1 wherein the at least one transaction function includes ordering goods or services through the ATM.

14. The article according to claim 1 wherein the at least one ATM application comprises a service related function, and wherein the instructions are operative to cause service related data regarding the ATM to be sent to a remote server.

15. The article according to claim 1 wherein the instructions are operative to cause the at least one computer to securely communicate with the remote server.

16. The article according to claim 15 wherein the instructions are operative to cause the at least one computer to communicate with the remote server through use of PKI.

17. The article according to claim 1 wherein the at least one application is provided by an application service provider (ASP), and the instructions are adapted to carry out the at least one transaction function only on a temporary basis during the time which the ASP has been paid for-use of the application.
