Abstract

The invention provides an apparatus and manufacturing methods useful in the manufacture of large transformer cores, particularly, in the manufacture of large transformer cores made of a ferromagnetic material, especially of annealed amorphous metal alloys. The invention further provides transformer cores produced utilizing the inventive apparatus and manufacturing methods, as well as finished transformers which include such transformer cores.

Claims

1. An apparatus for the assembly of laminated transformer cores which comprises:

a laminated transformer core;

at least one support affixed to portions of one or more legs of the laminated transformer core as well as at least a top portion of the laminated transformer core;

a stage adapted to support the laminated transformer core.

2. An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the laminated transformer core comprises an amorphous metal alloy.

3. An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the laminated transformer core comprises an annealed amorphous metal alloy.

4. An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the stage includes a plurality of downwardly depending supporting legs.

5. An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the stage comprises at least an end portion, and a plurality of depending support legs extending therefrom.

6. An apparatus according to claim 5 wherein the depending supporting legs are separated by a gap.

8. The process according to claim 6 which includes the further process steps of:

inserting a second transformer coil onto a second transformer leg prior to reconstituting the transformer core.

15. A power transformer comprising a laminated transformer core, a support affixed to at least a portion of the transformer core and a transformer coil manufactured according the process of claim 6.

16. A power transformer according to claim 15 wherein the transformer core comprises an annealed amorphous metal alloy.

7. A process for the manufacture of a transformer comprising at least a laminated transformer core having at least one transformer leg and at least one laceable joint, said transformer further comprising at least one transformer coil which process comprises the steps of:

affixing a support to portions of at least the one transformer leg;

laying the support and the transformer core onto a stage in a generally horizontal orientation;

inserting the at least one transformer coil onto the at least one transformer leg;

reconstituting the transformer core; and

,

withdrawing the stage from the interior of the at least one transformer coil.

9. The process according to claim 7 wherein the laminated transformer core comprises an amorphous metal alloy.

10. The process according to claim 7 wherein the laminated transformer core comprises an annealed amorphous metal alloy.

11. A process for the manufacture of a transformer comprising at least a laminated transformer core having at least one transformer leg and at least one laceable joint, said transformer further comprising at least one transformer coil which process comprises the steps of:

affixing a support to portions of at least the one transformer leg;

orienting the support and the transformer core in a generally horizontal orientation;

inserting the at least one transformer coil onto the at least one transformer leg;

reconstituting the transformer core.

12. The process according to claim 11 which includes the further process steps of:

inserting a second transformer coil onto a second transformer leg prior to reconstituting the transformer core.

13. An apparatus according to claim 11 wherein the laminated transformer core comprises an amorphous metal alloy.

14. An apparatus according to claim 11 wherein the laminated transformer core comprises an annealed amorphous metal alloy.

17. A power transformer comprising a laminated transformer core, a support affixed to at least a portion of the transformer core and a transformer coil manufactured according the process of claim 11.

18. A power transformer according to claim 17 wherein the transformer core comprises an annealed amorphous metal alloy.
