1. A method of initiating formation of a hydrogel in situ comprising the steps:
- delivering a solid article comprising an initiator to the intended site of formation of the hydrogel; and
delivering a gellable composition that will form a hydrogel in response to the initiator to the intended site of formation of the hydrogel;
whereby the gellable composition forms the hydrogel.

9. A method of initiating formation of a hydrogel comprising the steps:
-
delivering a gellable composition that can form a hydrogel in response to an initiator to the intended site of formation of the hydrogel via a catheter; and
providing an initiator within the catheter so that when the gellable composition passes by the initiator, formation of the hydrogel is initiated.
