Abstract

A slotted shield for a surgical tack, including a body adapted to engage a tack head. The shield has at least one slot having a width, defined by the body. Optionally, the shield is mounted on a tack head on which said shield is mounted.

Claims

1. A slotted shield for a surgical tack, comprising:

a body adapted to engage a tack head; and

at least one slot having a width, defined by said body.

2. A shield according to claim 1, and comprising a tack head on which said shield is mounted.

3. A shield according to claim 2, wherein said shield is mounted in a temporary manner.

4. A shield according to claim 2, wherein said shield is permanently mounted on said tack head.

5. A shield according to claim 2, wherein said shield is adapted to have a fixed rotational orientation when mounted on said tack head.

6. A shield according to claim 2, wherein said shield is a one-use shield.

7. A shield according to claim 2, wherein at least a portion of said shield defining said slot is flexible.

8. A shield according to claim 2, wherein at least a portion of said shield defining said slot is rigid.

9. A shield according to claim 2, wherein at least a portion of said shield defining said slot is retractable relative to said tack head.

10. A shield according to claim 2, wherein said body defines at least one arm-slot for an arm of said tack.

11. A shield according to claim 2, wherein said at least one slot comprises a single slot.

12. A shield according to claim 2, wherein said at least one slot comprises two slots.

13. A shield according to claim 2, wherein said slot is wider than a sling which is mounted on said tack.

14. A shield according to claim 2, wherein said slot is adapted to hold said sling.

15. A sling mounting implement adapted for mounting a sling on a tack, comprising:

a body having an aperture defined by said body, and adapted to receive a tip of said tack; and

a handle.

16. An implement according to claim 15, wherein said body is adapted to hold said sling

17. An implement according to claim 15, comprising a finger protector, for protecting fingers at said handles, from said tip of said tack.

18. An implement according to claim 15, and comprising at least one sling designed for a suspension procedure, packed therewith.

19. An implement according to claim 15, wherein said aperture is wide enough so that the implement can be removed from said tip after mounting said sling.

20. An implement according to claim 15, wherein said aperture cannot be removed from said tip, without damaging the implement.

21. A method of mounting a sling on a tack, comprising:

providing a tack mounted on a tack head;

placing a sling between a tip of said tack and an apertured sling mounting implement;

advancing said implement relative to said tack, so said sling is transfixed by said tip and said tip enters said aperture; and

removing said sling mounting implement.

22. A method according to claim 21, comprising, mounting a shield on said tack head after said removing.

23. A method according to claim 21, comprising, mounting a shield on said tack head before said advancing.
