Abstract

A device for determining a parameter of a medium flowing in a line, according to the related art, does not offer sufficient protection for a measuring element from liquid or solid particles which may dirty or damage the measuring element in an unwanted way.

A device (1) according to the present invention has an input region (27), whence, on the one hand, the flowing medium flows into the measuring channel (30), and on the other hand, through at least one separation opening (33), liquid and solid particles flow, and thus flow so as to bypass the measuring channel (30).

Claims

1. A device for determining at least one parameter of a medium flowing in a line,

especially of an intake air mass of an internal combustion machine which has a main flow direction,

having at least one measuring element circumflowed by the flowing medium,

having a bypass channel,

which has at least one intake port connected to the line, and at least one exit opening out into the line,

which has a measuring channel in which the measuring element is situated,

which has an input region downstream after the intake opening,

wherein the flowing medium subdivides in the input region (27) completely into two partial flows;

and the first partial flow flows completely into the measuring channel (30); and

the second partial flow flows completely through at least one separation opening (33).

2. The device as recited in claim 1,

wherein the intake port (21), in an axial direction (12) which runs perpendicular to the main flow region (18), has an upper boundary edge (36) which is closest to the measuring element (9);

and the upper plane (39), which lies perpendicular to the plane of the drawing and parallel to the main flow direction (18), runs through an upper boundary edge (36) of the intake port (21); and

in the bypass channel (24) at least one separation opening (33) is present, which in the axial direction (12) is farther removed from the measuring element (9) than the upper plane (39).

3. The device as recited in claim 1 or 2,

wherein the bypass channel (24) has at least one separation point (66) in or downstream from the intake port (21).

4. The device as recited in claim 1,

wherein in the input region (27) a tear-off edge (60) is present.

5. The device as recited in claim 1,

wherein the measuring channel (30) tapers in the region of the measuring element (9).

6. The device as recited in claim 1,

wherein the separation opening (33) connects the input region (27) to the line (3).

7. The device as recited in claim 1,

wherein a deflection channel (51) connects to the measuring channel (30);

and the separation opening (33) connects the input region (27) to the deflecting channel (51).

8. The device as recited in claim 1,

wherein the plane, in which separation plane 33 lies, is situated at an angle differing from zero degrees to the main flow direction (18).

9. The device as recited in claim 1,

wherein the main flow direction (18) runs in the plane in which the separation opening (33) lies.

10. The device as recited in claim 1,

wherein the main flow direction (18) runs in the plane of the exit opening (54).

11. The device as recited in claim 1,

wherein the plane of exit opening (54) is positioned in line (3) at an angle differing from zero degrees to the main flow direction (18).

12. The device as recited in claim 1 or 7,

wherein a deflection channel (51) connects to the measuring channel (30);

and the measuring channel (30) and the deflection channel (51) are formed C-shaped, the opening of the C shape facing the main flow direction (18).

13. The device as recited in claim 1,

wherein the bypass channel (24) is formed as a deflecting element downstream from the intake port (21).

14. The device as recited in claim 13,

wherein, as the deflecting element, a lip (37) is situated downstream from the intake port (21) in the bypass channel (24).

15. The device as recited in claim 1, 4 or 6,

wherein the input region (27) has a downstream region (28);

and in the downstream region (28) at least one wedge (72) is situated.

16. The device as recited in claim 15,

wherein the wedge (72) has at least one tip (75) at the upstream end.

17. The device as recited in claim 1 or 2,

wherein the bypass channel (24) is situated in a measuring housing (6);

and at least one projection (84) is situated upstream from the separation opening (33) on at least one outer side surface (81) of the measuring housing (33).

18. The device as recited in one or more of claims 1, 2, 6 through 9 or 17,

wherein the medium flows in a main flow direction (18);

and the main flow direction (18) runs in the plane of the separation opening (33).

19. The device as recited in one or more of claims 1, 2, 6 through 9 or 17,

wherein the medium flows in a main flow direction (18);

and the main flow direction (18) forms an intersecting angle with the separation opening (33) that is different from zero.

20. The device as recited in claim 15 or 16,

wherein the wedge (72) is designed triangular in cross section.

21. The device as recited in claim 15 or 16,

wherein the side surfaces (78) of the wedge (72) are concavely curved.

22. The device as recited in one or more of claims 1, 2, 6 through 9 or 17 through 19,

wherein a measuring housing inner wall (87) has a chamfer (93) in the region of the separation opening (33).
