First Claim
1. (Amended) An apparatus (10, 60) for detecting an absolute rotation angle of a detection body (ST), comprising:
- a first rotation angle detector (15, 65) connected to said detection body for generating a first detection signal having a cycle corresponding to the rotation of said detection body, wherein said first rotation angle detector includes a first rotating body (13, 51) that is connected to said detection body and rotates together with said detection body;
a second rotation angle detector (20) connected to said first rotation angle detector;
said second rotation angle detector including a second rotating body (16) that rotates together with said first rotating body and generating a second detection signal having a cycle corresponding to the rotation of said second rotating body based on the rotation of said second rotating body, wherein the rotation rate of said second rotating body (16) is greater than that of said first rotating body;
a control device (22, 62) connected to said first rotation angle detector and said second rotation angle detector for detecting an absolute rotation angle of said detection body based on said first detection signal and said second detection signal, wherein;
said absolute rotation angle is determined based on the combination of a value of said first detection signal and a value of said second detection signal; and
when there is an absolute rotation angle having the same combination of the value of said first detection signal and the value of said second detection signal, said control device specifies an absolute rotation angle based on the relationship between the change of the value of said first detection signal and the change of the value of said second detection signal.

Abstract
A rotation angle detector that is able to detect an absolute rotation angle of a detection body accurately and is able to reduce the installation space required. The rotation angle detector includes a first rotation angle detector (15) connected to the detection body for generating a first detection signal having a cycle corresponding to the rotation of the detection body. The first rotation angle detector includes a first rotating body (13) which is connected to the detection body and rotates together with the detection body. The detector includes a second rotation angle detector (20) connected to the first rotation angle detector. The second rotation angle detector includes a second rotating body (16) that rotates together with the first rotating body at a speed greater than that of the first rotating body, and generates a second detection signal having a cycle corresponding to the rotation of the second rotating body. The control device (22) detects an absolute rotation angle of the detection body based on the first detection signal and the second detection signal.
