Abstract

The present invention provides a method of accessing a quiescent mobile vehicle using a wireless communication system. At least one transmit power parameter of a vehicle communication device is determined. At least one sleep duration value is calculated based on the transmit power parameter. The vehicle communication device is placed into a quiescent state based on the sleep duration value. Programs and systems of using the method are also provided.

Claims

1. A method of accessing a quiescent mobile vehicle using a wireless communication system, comprising:

determining at least one transmit power parameter of a vehicle communication device;

calculating at least one sleep duration value based on the transmit power parameter; and

placing the vehicle communication device into a quiescent state based on the sleep duration value.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

calculating at least one wakeup duration value based on the transmit power parameter; and

placing the vehicle communication device into an awake state based on the wakeup duration value.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

calculating at least one sleep cycle duration value based on the transmit power parameter; and

placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle for the sleep cycle duration value.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

determining if the sleep cycle is continuous.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

calculating at least one power down delay interval value based on the transmit power parameter; and

placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle after the power down delay interval elapses.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining at least one registration parameter.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

calculating at least one sleep duration value based on the registration parameter.

8. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

calculating at least one wakeup duration value based on the registration parameter; and

placing the vehicle communication device into an awake state based on the wakeup duration value.

9. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

calculating at least one sleep cycle duration value based on the registration parameter; and

placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle for the sleep cycle duration value.

10. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

calculating at least one power down delay interval value based on the registration parameter; and

placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle after the power down delay interval elapses.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining at least one network parameter.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

calculating at least one sleep duration value based on the network parameter.

13. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

calculating at least one wakeup duration value based on the network parameter; and

placing the vehicle communication device into an awake state based on the wakeup duration value.

14. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

calculating at least one sleep cycle duration value based on the network parameter; and

placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle for the sleep cycle duration value.

15. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

calculating at least one power down delay interval value based on the network parameter; and

placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle after the power down delay interval elapses.

16. Computer program product in a computer usable medium for accessing a mobile vehicle using a wireless communication system, comprising:

means for determining at least one transmit power parameter of a vehicle communication device;

means for calculating at least one sleep duration value based on the transmit power parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a quiescent state based on the sleep duration value.

17. The product of claim 16, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one wakeup duration value based on the transmit power parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into an awake state based on the wakeup duration value.

18. The product of claim 16, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one sleep cycle duration value based on the transmit power parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle for the sleep cycle duration value.

19. The product of claim 18, further comprising:

means for determining if the sleep cycle is continuous.

20. The product of claim 16, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one power down delay interval value based on the transmit power parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle after the power down delay interval elapses.

21. The product of claim 16, further comprising:

means for determining at least one registration parameter.

22. The product of claim 21, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one sleep duration value based on the registration parameter.

23. The product of claim 21, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one wakeup duration value based on the registration parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into an awake state based on the wakeup duration value.

24. The product of claim 21, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one sleep cycle duration value based on the registration parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle for the sleep cycle duration value.

25. The product of claim 21, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one power down delay interval value based on the registration parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle after the power down delay interval elapses.

26. The product of claim 16, further comprising:

means for determining at least one network parameter.

27. The product of claim 26, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one sleep duration value based on the network parameter.

28. The product of claim 26, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one wakeup duration value based on the network parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into an awake state based on the wakeup duration value.

29. The product of claim 26, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one sleep cycle duration value based on the network parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle for the sleep cycle duration value.

30. The product of claim 26, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one power down delay interval value based on the network parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle after the power down delay interval elapses.

31. A mobile vehicle access system, comprising:

means for determining at least one transmit power parameter of a vehicle communication device;

means for calculating at least one sleep duration value based on the transmit power parameter;

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a quiescent state based on the sleep duration value;

means for calculating at least one wakeup duration value based on the transmit power parameter;

means for placing the vehicle communication device into an awake state based on the wakeup duration value;

means for calculating at least one sleep cycle duration value based on the transmit power parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle for the sleep cycle duration value.

32. The system of claim 31, further comprising:

means for determining if the sleep cycle is continuous.

33. The system of claim 31, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one power down delay interval value based on the transmit power parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle after the power down delay interval elapses.

34. The system of claim 31, further comprising:

means for determining at least one registration parameter;

means for calculating at least one sleep duration value based on the registration parameter;

means for calculating at least one wakeup duration value based on the registration parameter;

means for placing the vehicle communication device into an awake state based on the wakeup duration value;

means for calculating at least one sleep cycle duration value based on the registration parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle for the sleep cycle duration value.

35. The system of claim 34, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one power down delay interval value based on the registration parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle after the power down delay interval elapses.

36. The system of claim 31, further comprising:

means for determining at least one network parameter;

means for calculating at least one sleep duration value based on the network parameter;

means for calculating at least one wakeup duration value based on the network parameter;

means for placing the vehicle communication device into an awake state based on the wakeup duration value;

means for calculating at least one sleep cycle duration value based on the network parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle for the sleep cycle duration value.

37. The system of claim 36, further comprising:

means for calculating at least one power down delay interval value based on the network parameter; and

means for placing the vehicle communication device into a sleep cycle after the power down delay interval elapses.
