Abstract

Audio information is recorded in units of tracks on an information storage medium on which audio information and management information that pertains to the audio information are recorded, and information indicating the playback sequence of the audio information is recorded in the management information. Furthermore, information indicating break positions of tracks with respect to the audio information is recorded in the information indicating the playback sequence.

Claims

1. An information storage medium having information recording area, wherein

said information recording area includes management information recording area and at least one of object recording areas, and

said management information recording area is configured to store at least one type of entry point information.

2. The medium of claim 1, wherein said management information recording area is configured to store a first type of the entry point information which is used to describe at least one user-defined portion of the object recording areas.

3. The medium of claim 2, wherein said first type entry point information includes at least one information item of:

an entry point type for describing said first type;

a presentation time of one or more entry points;

a primary text information; and

a representative picture information.

4. The medium of claim 1, wherein said management information recording area is configured to store a second type of the entry point information which is used to describe at least one index point of the object recording areas.

5. The medium of claim 4, wherein said second type entry point information includes at least one information item of:

an entry point type for describing said second type;

a presentation time of one or more entry points;

an index number indicating said index point; and

a primary text information.

6. The medium of claim 1, wherein said management information recording area is configured to store a third type of the entry point information which is used to describe at least one index point of the object recording areas.

7. The medium of claim 6, wherein said third type entry point information includes at least one information item of:

an entry point type for describing said third type;

a presentation time of one or more entry points; and

an index number indicating said index point.

8. The medium of claim 1, wherein said management information recording area is configured to store a fourth type of the entry point information which is used to describe at least one display list of the object recording areas.

9. The medium of claim 6, wherein said fourth type entry point information includes at least one information item of:

an entry point type for describing said fourth type;

a presentation time of one or more entry points; and

a display list number indicating said display list.

10. The medium of claim 1, wherein said management information recording area is configured to store a fifth type of the entry point information which is used to describe at least one representative audio of the object recording areas.

11. The medium of claim 10, wherein said fifth type entry point information includes at least one information item of:

an entry point type for describing said fifth type;

a presentation time of one or more entry points; and

a representative audio duration describing a duration of said representative audio.

12. The medium of claim 1, wherein said management information recording area is configured to store one data unit entry information indicating an entry point of a unit of data recorded in one of the object recording areas.

13. The medium of claim 12, wherein said data unit entry information includes size information describing a size of the data unit recorded in said one of the object recording areas.

14. The medium of claim 1, wherein said management information recording area is configured to store one still picture entry information indicating an entry point of a still picture data recorded in one of the object recording areas.

15. The medium of claim 14, wherein said still picture entry information includes size information describing a size of the still picture data recorded in said one of the object recording areas.

16. A method of recording audio information in an audio object recording area contained in the object recording areas of said information storage medium defined by claim 1.

17. A method of recording still picture information in a still picture object recording area contained in the object recording areas of said information storage medium defined by claim 1.

18. A method of partially erasing information recorded in the object recording areas of said information storage medium defined by claim 1.

19. A method of reading management information recorded in said information storage medium defined by claim 1.

20. A method of creating a play list representing user-defined program chain information which designates a user-defined playback sequence of contents recorded in said information storage medium defined by claim 1.

21. A method of playing back audio information recorded in an audio object recording area contained in the object recording areas of said information storage medium defined by claim 1.

22. A method of reproducing still picture information recorded in a still picture object recording area contained in the object recording areas of said information storage medium defined by claim 1.

23. An apparatus used for the method of claim 16.
