Abstract

The present invention is directed to technology for enabling an Identity System to interact with provisioning systems. An Identity System sets a job code attribute for an entity that it manages. The job code attribute corresponds to a set of external resources associated with the entity. The resources may be supported by different provisioning systems. In response to the entity'"'"'s job code attribute, a Provisioning Bridge Server provisions tasks required to make the external resources available to the entity. The tasks may be provisioned across multiple provisioning systems.

Claims

1. A computer implemented method for provisioning tasks, said method comprising the steps of:

(a) setting a job code attribute for an entity in an Identity System, wherein said job code attribute corresponds to a set of external resources for said entity; and

(b) provisioning tasks related to resources in said set of external resources in response to said job code attribute.

2. The computer implemented method of claim 1, further including the step of:

(c) determining whether said job code attribute can be set for said entity.

3. The computer implemented method of claim 1, further including the step of:

(c) determining whether said entity can have said job code attribute to be set in said step (a).

4. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein said set of external resources includes multiple resources.

5. The computer implemented method of claim 4, wherein said set of external resources is supported by a plurality of provisioning systems in communication with said Identity System.

6. The computer implemented method of claim 5, wherein said job code attribute corresponds to a first task related to a first resource in said set of external resources and a second task related to a second resource in said set of external resources, wherein said first resource is supported by a first provisioning system in said plurality of provisioning systems and said second resource is supported by a second provisioning system in said plurality of provisioning systems.

7. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein said step (a) includes the step of:

(1) adding a job code to said job code attribute.

8. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein said step (a) includes the step of:

(1) changing a job code in said job code attribute.

9. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein said step (a) includes the step of:

(1) removing a job code from said job code attribute.

10. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein said job code attribute includes a plurality of nested job codes.

11. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein said set of external resources includes a plurality of computer systems.

12. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein said step (a) is performed as part of a workflow.

13. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein said step (a) is performed as part of a cross application workflow.

14. The computer implemented method of claim 1, wherein said step (a) is performed as part of a subflow.

33. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said step (a) is performed as part of a workflow.

34. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said apparatus includes said Identity System.

15. One or more processor readable storage devices having processor readable code embodied on said processor readable storage devices, said processor readable code for programming one or more processors to perform a method for provisioning tasks, said method comprising the steps of:

(a) setting a job code attribute for an entity in an Identity System, wherein said job code attribute corresponds to a set of external resources for said entity; and

(b) provisioning tasks related to resources in said set of external resources in response to said job code attribute.

16. One or more processor readable storage devices according to claim 15, wherein said method further includes the step of:

(c) determining whether said job code attribute can be set for said entity.

17. One or more processor readable storage devices according to claim 15, wherein said method further includes the step of:

(c) determining whether said entity can have said job code attribute to be set in said step (a).

18. One or more processor readable storage devices according to claim 15, wherein said set of external resources includes multiple resources.

19. One or more processor readable storage devices according to claim 18, wherein said set of external resources is supported by a plurality of provisioning systems in communication with said Identity System.

20. One or more processor readable storage devices according to claim 19, wherein said job code attribute corresponds to a first task related to a first resource in said set of external resources and a second task related to a second resource in said set of external resources, wherein said first resource is supported by a first provisioning system in said plurality of provisioning systems and said second resource is supported by a second provisioning system in said plurality of provisioning systems.

21. One or more processor readable storage devices according to claim 15, wherein said step (a) includes the step of:

(1) adding a job code to said job code attribute.

22. One or more processor readable storage devices according to claim 15, wherein said step (a) includes the step of:

(1) removing a job code from said job code attribute.

23. One or more processor readable storage devices according to claim 15, wherein said job code attribute includes a plurality of nested job codes.

24. One or more processor readable storage devices according to claim 15, wherein said step (a) is performed as part of a workflow.

25. An apparatus comprising:

one or more communications interfaces;

one or more storage devices; and

one or more processors in communication with said one or more storage devices and said one or more communication interfaces, said one or more processors perform a method for provisioning tasks, said method comprising the steps of;

(a) setting a job code attribute for an entity in an Identity System, wherein said job code attribute corresponds to a set of external resources for said entity; and

(b) provisioning tasks related to resources in said set of external resources in response to said job code attribute.

26. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein said method further includes the step of:

(c) determining whether said job code attribute can be set for said entity.

27. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein said method further includes the step of:

(c) determining whether said entity can have said job code attribute to be set in said step (a).

28. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein said set of external resources includes multiple resources and said set of external resources is supported by a plurality of provisioning systems in communication with said Identity System.

The apparatus of claim 28, wherein said job code attribute corresponds to a first task related to a first resource in said set of external resources and a second task related to a second resource in said set of external resources, wherein said first resource is supported by a first provisioning system in said plurality of provisioning systems and said second resource is supported by a second provisioning system in said plurality of provisioning systems.

30. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein said step (a) includes the step of:

(1) adding a job code to said job code attribute.

31. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein said step (a) includes the step of:

(1) removing a job code from said job code attribute.

32. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein said job code attribute includes a plurality of nested job codes.
