Abstract

Method, system and computer program product for delta-handling. A server stores a page-document that comprises at least one component. The page-document is translated into a browser-document that is displayed by a client. The server receives a request from the client resulting in an update of a specific component of the page-document with an application-delta. The specific component has a writer-function. The server generates a browser-delta by applying the writer-function to the application-delta. The server sends the browser-delta to the client for updating the browser-document on the client.

Claims

1. A method for delta-handling on a server storing a page-document that comprises at least one component, the page-document being translated into a browser-document that is displayed by a client;

the method comprising the following steps;

receiving a request from the client resulting in an update of a specific component of the page-document with an application-delta, wherein the specific component has a writer-function;

generating a browser-delta by applying the writer-function to the application-delta; and

sending the browser-delta to the client for updating the browser-document on the client.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the page-document is a page selected from the group of JavaServer Pages page, Business Server Pages, Active Server Pages page.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the browser-document is a markup language document.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the specific component is a tag within the page-document.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the writer-function is a function of a class that corresponds to the specific component, wherein the class is written in an object-oriented programming language.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the writer-function generates the browser-delta in a markup language.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein in the generating step, the writer-function uses a delta-output-stream for the browser-delta.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the specific component has a sub-component having a further writer-function that generates a further browser-delta on the delta-output-stream through the writer-function of the specific component.

9. A method for delta-handling on a client for displaying a browser-document that is derived from a page-document stored on a server, the method comprising the following steps:

receiving a browser-delta from the server, wherein a specific page-component of the page-document has a writer-function that generates the browser-delta on the server by applying the writer-function to a corresponding application-delta; and

updating the browser-document with the browser-delta.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the browser-delta is received by a first frame and the browser-document is updated with the browser-delta in a second frame.

11. A computer program product for delta-handling on a server, wherein the server stores a page-document that comprises at least one component and the page-document is translated into a browser-document that is displayed by a client, the computer program product being embodied by a data carrier or carried by a signal and having instructions for causing at least one processor to:

receive a request from the client resulting in an update of a specific component of the page-document with an application-delta, wherein the specific component has a writer-function;

generate a browser-delta by applying the writer-function to the application-delta; and

send the browser-delta to the client for updating the browser-document on the client.

12. The computer program product of claim 11, wherein the writer-function is a function of a class that corresponds to the specific component, and wherein the class is written in an object-oriented programming language.

13. The computer program product of claim 11, wherein the writer-function uses a delta-output-stream for the browser-delta.

14. The computer program product of claim 13, wherein the specific component has a sub-component having a further writer-function that generates a further browser-delta on the delta-output-stream through the writer-function of the specific component.

15. A computer program product for delta-handling on a client displaying a browser-document that is derived from a page-document stored on a server;

the computer program product being embodied by a data carrier or carried by a signal and having instructions for causing at least one processor of the client to;

receive a browser-delta from the server, wherein a specific page-component of the page-document has a writer-function that generates the browser-delta on the server by applying the writer-function to a corresponding application-delta; and

update the browser-document with the browser-delta.

16. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the browser-delta is received by a first frame and the browser-document is updated with the browser-delta in a second frame.

17. A computer system for delta-handling comprising:

a server, wherein the server stores a page-document that comprises at least one component and the page-document is translated into a browser-document that is displayed by a client;

the server receiving a request from the client resulting in an update of a specific component of the page-document with an application-delta, wherein the specific component has a writer-function, the server generating a browser-delta by applying the writer-function to the application-delta, the server sending the browser-delta to the client; and

the client receiving the browser-delta from the server and updating the browser-document with the browser-delta.

18. The computer system of claim 17, wherein the client receives the browser-delta in a first frame and the browser-document is updated with the browser-delta in a second frame.

19. The computer system of claim 17, wherein the writer-function is a function of a class that corresponds to the specific component, and the class is written in an object-oriented programming language.

20. A server for delta-handling comprising:

a network connection for receiving a request from a client;

a memory storing a page-document that comprises at least one component and is displayed by a client; and

a processor translating the page-document into a browser-document stored in the memory, the processor processing the request resulting in an update of a specific component of the page-document with an application-delta, wherein the specific component has a writer-function, the processor generating a browser-delta in the memory by applying the writer-function to the application-delta and sending the browser-delta to the client for updating the browser-document on the client.

21. The server of claim 20, wherein the writer-function is a function of a class that corresponds to the specific component, and the class is written in an object-oriented programming language.
