Abstract

A nebulizer and a method of breathing using the nebulizer is described. The nebulizer and breathing techniques are capable of delivering medicament into the sinus cavity of a user.

Claims

1. A controlled particle dispersion breathing method, the method performed by a user having a sinus, comprising:

providing a nebulizer having a particle dispersion chamber to a user, the particle dispersion chamber capable of producing nebulized particles;

activating the nebulizer;

breathing a plurality of quick breaths as nebulized particles begin to flow out of the particle dispersion chamber;

creating a pressure in the sinus of the user using the back of the throat;

repeating the breathing of a plurality of quick breaths, holding the quick breaths and creating a pressure in the sinuses;

breathing a plurality of long breaths; and

repeating the breathing of a plurality of quick breaths, holding the quick breaths, creating a pressure in the sinuses and breathing a plurality of long breaths.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein about five quick breaths are breathed.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein about two to four quick breaths are breathed.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein about three quick breaths are breathed.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein about three long breaths are breathed.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein about two long breaths are breathed.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein about one long breath is breathed.

22. A method of delivering a medicament to the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses comprising:

providing the nebulizer of claim 8;

performing the controlled particle dispersion breathing technique of claim 1;

and

delivering the medicament.

8. A nebulizer comprising:

a nasal adapter;

a vortex chamber in communication with the nasal adapter;

an outflow tube in communication with the vortex chamber; and

a housing, the housing having a medicine chamber in which the medicine is nebulized in communication with the outflow tube.

9. The nebulizer of claim 8 wherein the nebulizer is capable of delivery of particles sizes ranging from about 2 to about 50 microns.

10. The nebulizer of claim 8 wherein the nasal adapter has a lip.

11. The nebulizer of claim 8 wherein the nasal adapter has a with of about 1½

inches across a bridge of the nasal adapter and a length of about 1½

inches.

12. The nebulizer of claim 10 wherein the lip is about ⅛

inch long and capable of forming a seal.

13. The nebulizer of claim 8 wherein the outflow tube has an internal diameter of about {fraction (9/16)} of an inch and a first tapered end.

14. The nebulizer of claim 8 wherein the nasal adapter has a plurality of exhaust vents.

15. The nebulizer of claim 8 further comprising:

a band, the band connected to the nasal adapter, whereby the band is capable of securing the nasal adapter to the face of a user.

16. The nebulizer of claim 8 further comprising:

a hose, the hose in communication with the outflow tube.

17. The nebulizer of claim 16 wherein the hose is an accordion hose.

18. The nebulizer of claim 8 further comprising a shut-off timer.

19. The nebulizer of claim 8 further comprising a pause feature.

20. The nebulizer of claim 8 wherein the medicine chamber is a multi-dose compartment.

21. The nebulizer of claim 8 further comprising

a lid for covering the medicine chamber;

a cartridge capable of insertion into the medicine chamber; and

a nebulizing stem connected to the lid, the stem capable of insertion into the cartridge.

23. The method 22 wherein the medicament is at least one of a treatment for conditions consisting of sinusitis, allergies, rhinitis, migraine headache, influenza, and the common cold.

24. An ampule comprising:

a three-dimensional exterior shape and an exterior surface forming an interior cavity;

a channel for acceptance of a nebulizer stem, the channel in communication with the exterior surface and the cavity.

25. The ampule of claim 24 further comprising a medicament contained within the cavity.

26. The ampule of claim 24 wherein the three dimensional shape is a biodegradable plastic.

27. The ampule of claim 24,further comprising

a top surface of the exterior shape;

a bottom surface of the exterior shape; and

a twist-off cap located on either the top surface or the bottom surface which when removed is capable of receiving a nebulizing stem

28. The ampule of claim 24 further comprising:

a top surface of the exterior shape;

a bottom surface of the exterior shape; and

a perforated area on the top surface or the bottom surface capable of receiving a nebulizing stem.

29. The ampule of claim 24 wherein the exterior shape is cooperative with a medicine chamber of a nebulizer.

30. A particle dispersion chamber comprising:

a housing having an external surface and an internal channel; and

a plurality of air outputs communicating with the internal chamber, whereby the air outputs are capable of causing a plurality of nebulized particles to randomly move in a vortex within the internal channel.

31. The particle dispersal chamber of claim 30 wherein the air outputs are positioned randomly along the internal channel of the particle dispersion chamber.

32. The particle dispersion chamber of claim 30 wherein the air output are positioned in a set array along the internal channel of the particle dispersion chamber.

33. The particle dispersion chamber of claim 30 wherein the air outputs are jets.

34. The particle dispersion chamber of claim 30 further comprising a dispersion blade located within the internal channel.

35. The particle dispersion chamber of claim 34 wherein the dispersion blade is solid.

36. The particle dispersion chamber of claim 34 wherein the dispersion blade is netting.

37. The particle dispersion chamber of claim 30 further comprising a baffle located within the internal channel.

38. The particle dispersion chamber of claim 37 wherein the baffle is helixical shape.

39. The particle dispersion chamber of claim 30 further comprising:

an inhaler having a mouthpiece, the mouthpiece associated with the particle dispersion chamber.

40. The particle dispersion chamber of claim 30 further comprising:

a nasal spray inhaler having an actuator, the actuator associated with the particle dispersion chamber.

41. The particle dispersion chamber of claim 30 further comprising:

a dry powder inhaler having an mouthpiece, the mouthpiece associated with the particle dispersion chamber.
