Abstract
Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method and apparatus for bonded fluidic circuit for an optical bio-disc. In one embodiment of the present invention, a bio-disc is formed using at least two discs. In one embodiment, a shim is used to bond the two discs. In another embodiment, ultra-violet (UV) cured adhesives are used to bond the two discs. In yet another embodiment, the two discs are welded together using ultrasonic energy. In one embodiment, flash chambers containing a fluid are included in the fluidic circuit. During use of the bio-disc, the flash chambers are heated using a laser, causing the fluid to expand and/or vaporize. The expansion of the fluid in the flash chamber is used to propel the sample fluid through the fluidic circuit as desired.
