Abstract
A curtain air bag for a car is released to protect a passenger in the ribs as well as in the head simultaneously at an automobile accident. The curtain air bag of the present invention includes an inflator unit for generating operation gas, a diffuser connected to the inflator unit and a first cushion for covering around the diffuser over a predetermined area. The upper part of the first cushion is fixed to the roof rail through a cushion holder. Besides, the first cushion is divided into a first area and a second area which limit the sides of the front and rear seats, a third area which forms the front of the first area, and a fourth area which is located between the first area and the second area. Though controlled to expand in spreading the first cushion, the fourth area has at least one non-expanding area. A second cushion is connected in a unit to the third cushion on the lower parts of the first area and the second area to protect a passenger in the ribs. According to the present invention, at a car collision, the operation gas generating from the inflator unit is emitted into the insides of the first, second and third cushions through the diffuser and spread the cushions simultaneously to protect a passenger in the ribs as well as in the head.
