Abstract

A method of treating a patient for a Sleep Disorder comprising administering an effective amount of R-(+)-α-(2,3-Dimethoxyphenyl)-1-[2-(4-fluorophenyl)ethyl]-4-piperidinemethanol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof to a patient in need of such treatment.

Claims

1. A method of treating substance induced insomnia in a patient comprising administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of R-(+)-α

-(2,3-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-[2-(4-fluorophenyl)ethyl]-4-piperidinemethanol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the substance induced insomnia is caused by effects of taking or withdrawing of one or more substances selected from the group consisting of caffeine, alcohol, amphetamine, opioids, sedatives, hypnotics, and anxiolytics.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the substance induced insomnia is caused by taking caffeine.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein the substance induced insomnia is caused by withdrawing effects of caffeine.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the substance induced insomnia is caused by taking alcohol.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the substance induced insomnia is caused by withdrawing effects of alcohol.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the substance induced insomnia is caused by taking or withdrawing effects of amphetamine.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the substance induced insomnia is caused by taking or withdrawing effects of opiods.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the substance induced insomnia is caused by taking or withdrawing effects of sedatives.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the substance induced insomnia is caused by taking or withdrawing effects of hypnotics.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the substance induced insomnia is caused by taking or withdrawing effects of anxiolytics.

12. A method of treating alcohol induced insomnia in a patient comprising administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of R-(+)-α

-(2,3-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-[2-(4-fluorophenyl)ethyl]-4-piperidinemethanol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein alcohol induced insomnia is caused by effects of taking alcohol.

14. The method of claim 12 wherein alcohol induced insomnia is caused by effects of withdrawing from alcohol.

15. A method of treating caffeine induced insomnia in a patient comprising administering to said patient a therapeutically effective amount of R-(+)-α

-(2,3-dimethoxyphenyl)-1-[2-(4-fluorophenyl)ethyl]-4-piperidinemethanol or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein alcohol induced insomnia is caused by effects of taking caffeine.

17. The method of claim 15 wherein alcohol induced insomnia is caused by effects of withdrawing from caffeine.
