A dry bowel cleansing composition comprising from about 20 to 40% by wt. of a phosphate powder comprising disodium phosphate or an admixture of disodium phosphate and sodium monophosphate and from about 60 to 80% by wt. water-soluble polyethylene glycol (PEG), based on the combined weight of PEG and phosphate.

Abstract
The invention provides compositions for rapid bowel cleansing comprising a mixture of polyethylene glycol and sodium phosphate(s). The compositions are particularly useful for preparing the bowel prior to surgery or diagnostic procedures such as colonoscopies. The invention further comprises methods for cleansing the bowel using these compositions, and bowel cleansing kits comprising these compositions.
