Abstract

A data transfer method which quickens the resumption of work execution in an environment in which works are executed by a plurality of computers according to a schedule. The work server identifies a work to be processed, identifies a file used by the identified work, and then restores the data of the identified file.

Claims

1. A data transfer method for transferring data stored in a second storage device to a first storage device in which data processed by a computer is to be stored, the data transfer method comprising the steps of:

identifying a work to be processed by the computer; and

identifying a file used by the identified work, transferring data of the identified file from the second storage device to the first storage device, and executing the identified work.

2. In a system in which a plurality of computers designed to execute a work according to a predefined schedule are connected with a plurality of first storage devices, a data restoring method for transferring data stored in a second storage device to the first storage devices in which a fault occurred, the data restoring method comprising the steps of:

identifying from the failed storage devices a work to be re-executed; and

identifying a file used by the identified work, transferring the identified file from the second storage device to the first storage device, and executing the identified work.

3. A program for instructing a computer to transfer to a storage device in which a fault occurred data stored in another storage device, the program comprising the steps of:

identifying, from information used to identify a failed storage device, a work to be executed after the failed storage device is recovered; and

identifying a file used by the identified work and transferring data of the identified file from said another storage device.

4. A program according to claim 3, wherein the identified file is a work executed after the fault occurred and include a file stored in a storage device other than failed storage device.

5. A method of instructing a computer to restore data, comprising the steps of:

when the computer detects a fault, generating a fault remedy file containing information on a work associated with the fault;

reading a schedule file to execute works prestored in a storage device;

identifying a work to be executed according to the schedule file; and

sending an instruction for restoring data associated with the work according to the fault remedy file and the identified work.

6. A program for instructing a data restore operation, comprising the steps of:

when a fault is detected, generating a fault remedy file containing information on a work associated with the fault;

reading a schedule file to execute works prestored in a storage device;

identifying a work to be executed according to the schedule file; and

sending an instruction for restoring data associated with the work according to the fault remedy file and the identified work.

7. A system for instructing a data restore operation, comprising:

a means to, when a fault is detected, generate a fault remedy file containing information on a work associated with the fault;

a means to read a schedule file to execute works prestored in a storage device;

a means to identify a work to be executed according to the schedule file; and

a means to send an instruction for restoring data associated with the work according to the fault remedy file and the identified work.
