Abstract

Electronic messages are published through a pub/sub service to subscribing clients. Client applications filter incoming messages according to user predefined criteria, only presenting messages to the user that pass filtering criteria. Messages are preferably Instant Messages transmitted in a SOAP protocol.

Claims

1. A method for receiving electronic messages published through a pub/sub service, the pub/sub service in network communication with one or more client systems, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving a message at a client application, published from said content provider by way of said pub/sub service wherein said message comprises first identifying information;

inspecting said first identifying information according to a predefined criteria; and

selectively accepting said message by said client application when said first identifying information meets said predefined criteria.

2. The method according to claim 1 wherein said predefined criteria comprises any one of a keyword compare, a boolean compare or a phrase compare.

3. The method according to claim 1 comprising the further step of displaying said message.

4. The method according to claim 1 comprising the further step of passing said message to another program module.

5. The method according to claim 1 comprising the further step of forwarding said message over a network.

6. The method according to claim 1 wherein said message comprises any one of an Instant Message, EMail message, WSDL, XML, HTML, MIME or SOAP protocol.

7. The method according to claim 1 comprising the further step of subscribing for authorization to receive messages from a content provider.

8. A system for receiving electronic messages published through a pub/sub service, the pub/sub service in network communication with one or more client systems, the system comprising:

a receiver receiving a message at a client application, published from said content provider by way of said pub/sub service wherein said message comprises first identifying information;

a inspector inspecting said first identifying information according to a predefined criteria; and

an acceptor selectively accepting said message by said client application when said first identifying information meets said predefined criteria.

9. The system according to claim 8 wherein said predefined criteria comprises any one of a keyword compare, a boolean compare or a phrase compare.

10. The system according to claim 8 further comprising a display displaying said message.

11. The system according to claim 8 further comprising an interface forwarding said message to another program module.

12. The system according to claim 8 wherein said message comprises any one of an Instant Message, EMail message, WSDL, XML, HTML, MIME or SOAP protocol.

13. The system according to claim 8 further comprising a subscriber subscribing for authorization to receive messages from a content provider.

14. A computer program product for receiving electronic messages published through a pub/sub service, the pub/sub service in network communication with one or more client systems, the computer program product comprising a computer readable medium having computer readable program code therein, the computer program product comprising:

computer readable program code for receiving a message at a client application, published from said content provider by way of said pub/sub service wherein said message comprises first identifying information;

computer readable program code for inspecting said first identifying information according to a predefined criteria; and

computer readable program code for selectively accepting said message by said client application when said first identifying information meets said predefined criteria.

15. The computer program product according to claim 14 wherein said predefined criteria comprises any one of a keyword compare, a boolean compare or a phrase compare.

16. The computer program product according to claim 14 further comprising computer readable program code for displaying said message.

17. The computer program product according to claim 14 further comprising computer readable program code for passing said message to another program module.

18. The computer program product according to claim 14 further comprising computer readable program code for forwarding said message over a network.

19. The computer program product according to claim 14 wherein said message comprises any one of an Instant Message, EMail message, WSDL, XML, HTML, MIME or SOAP protocol.

20. The computer program product according to claim 14 further comprising computer readable program code for subscribing for authorization to receive messages from a content provider.
