Multi-source switching in a television system
First Claim
1. A method of operating a television system comprising:
- inputting and storing channel guide information in said system for each of multiple television signal sources, said stored channel guide information comprising at least one source identifier;
inputting a user desired program; and
using said source identifier and said user desired program to select a source from among said multiple television signal sources, and to tune a tuner to said user desired program.

Abstract
The present invention provides a tuning scheme for coordinating schedule information and programs received from multiple sources (26, 28, 30 and 34). In the preferred embodiment, an identifier associated with the program'"'"'s channel (52) is used to identify a source device (26, 28, 30 or 34). When a user selects a program (60 or 62) listed in displayed schedule information (50), the system (10) reads the source identifier attached to the program'"'"'s channel (52). The system (10) then carries out an automatic switching/tuning such that the required source device (26, 28, 30 or 34) is input to the destination device (22), and a tuner is then tuned to the selected program'"'"'s channel (52).

8. A multi-source switching system, comprising:
-
a microprocessor for switching between multiple sources in said multi-source switching system;
a memory, coupled to said microprocessor, for storing source identifiers, said source identifiers being associated with at least one broadcast from said multiple sources, said broadcast including television program schedule information;
a remote control for inputting a desired program to said microprocessor, said desired program being provided from one of said multiple sources, and said desired program being provided on a television channel; and
an emitter, coupled to said microprocessor, for transmitting a signal, said signal switching an input on a television to one of said multiple sources, said one of said multiple sources being identified by one of said source identifiers, and said signal tuning said one of said multiple sources to said desired program;
wherein said desired program is displayed on said television. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12)
