Abstract

A recording method for a recording medium, wherein an encrypting process is executed to inputted contents data by using either key data which becomes key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or fixed value data and, when an encoding process is executed to the encryption-processed data, if the key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded is used at the time of the encrypting process, the key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded is embedded, and the encoding-processed data is recorded onto the recording medium.

Claims

1. A recording apparatus for a recording medium comprising:

an encryption processing unit for executing an encrypting process to inputted contents data by using either key data which becomes key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or fixed value data;

an encoding processing unit for executing an encoding process to output data from said encryption processing unit and embedding the key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded when said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded is used by the encryption processing unit; and

a recording unit for recording output data from said encoding processing unit onto the recording medium.

2. A recording apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 1, wherein said encryption processing unit has an encryptor for executing the encrypting process to said inputted contents data by using contents key data.

A recording apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 2, wherein said encryption processing unit further has an encryptor for executing the encrypting process to said contents key data by said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data.

4. A recording apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 3, wherein said further encryptor executes the encrypting process to copyright management data of said contents data together with said contents key data.

A recording apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 3, wherein said encryption processing unit further has an arithmetic operation processing unit for executing an arithmetic operating process by the data of either said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data and by application key data, and wherein output data from said arithmetic operation processing unit is supplied as key data for the encrypting process to said further encryptor.

6. A recording apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 4, wherein output data from said encryptor, said application key data, and output data from said further encryptor are supplied to said encoding processing unit.

7. A recording apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 6, wherein said encryption processing unit further has a converting circuit unit for converting said application key data, and output data from said converting circuit unit is supplied to said encoder.

A recording apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 1, wherein said apparatus records identification data showing whether the recording medium is a recording medium which has been encryption-processed by using either said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data or not onto said recording medium.

9. A recording method for a recording medium, comprising the steps of:

executing an encrypting process to inputted contents data by using either key data which becomes key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or fixed value data;

when an encoding process is executed to said encryption-processed data, embedding the key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded when said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded is used at the time of said encrypting process; and

recording said encoding-processed data onto the recording medium.

10. A recording method for the recording medium according to claim 9, wherein said encrypting process is first executed to said inputted contents data by using contents key data.

11. A recording method for the recording medium according to claim 10, wherein the encrypting process is further executed to said contents key data by said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data.

A recording method for the recording medium according to claim 11, wherein the encrypting process is executed to copyright management data of said contents data together with said contents key data by said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data.

A recording method for the recording medium according to claim 11, wherein an arithmetic operating process is further executed by the data of either said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data and by application key data, and said contents key data is encryption-processed by using data which is obtained as a result of said arithmetic operating process.

14. A recording method for the recording medium according to claim 13, wherein said encrypted contents data, said application key data, and said encrypted contents key data are encoding-processed.

15. A recording method for the recording medium according to claim 14, wherein after a predetermined converting process is executed to said application key data, the encoding process is executed.

A recording method for the recording medium according to claim 9, wherein identification data showing whether the recording medium is a recording medium which has been encryption-processed by using either said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data or not is recorded onto said recording medium.

17. A reproducing apparatus for a recording medium, comprising:

a head unit for reading out data from the recording medium on which contents data has been encrypted and recorded;

a decoder for executing a decoding process to a signal from said head unit; and

a decryption processing unit for decrypting the encryption performed to output data from said decoder by using either key data which has been read out from said recording medium and becomes key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded onto said recording medium or fixed value data.

A reproducing apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 17, wherein said decryption processing unit further has a decryptor for extracting contents key data from the output data from said decoder by using the data of either said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data and by using application key data read out from said recording medium.

A reproducing apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 18, wherein said decryption processing unit further has an arithmetic operation processing unit for executing an arithmetic operating process by using the data of either said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data and by using the application key data read out from said recording medium and supplying data which is obtained as a result of said arithmetic operating process as key data of decryption of the encryption to said decryptor.

A reproducing apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 19, wherein said arithmetic operation processing unit further has a selection processing unit for selectively supplying the data of either said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data.

A reproducing apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 20, wherein identification data showing whether the recording medium is a recording medium which has been encryption-processed by using either said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data or not has been recorded onto said recording medium, said apparatus further comprises a reading unit for reading said identification data from the output data of said decoder, and said selection processing unit is controlled by output data from said reading unit.

22. A reproducing apparatus for the recording medium according to claim 18, wherein said decryption processing unit further has a decryptor for decrypting the encryption performed to the output data of said decoder by using said contents key data.

23. A reproducing method for a recording medium, comprising the steps of:

reading out identification data from the recording medium on which contents data has been encrypted by using either key data which becomes key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or fixed value data and recorded and said identification data showing whether the recording medium is a recording medium in which said contents data has been encryption-processed by using either said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or said fixed value data or not has been recorded;

if it is determined by said read-out identification data that said contents data has been encryption-processed by said fixed value data, executing a decrypting process of the encryption of data read out from said recording medium by said fixed value data; and

if it is determined by said read-out identification data that said contents data has been encrypted by said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded, executing the decrypting process of the encryption of the contents data read out from said recording medium by using said key data which has been read out from said recording medium and becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded.

A reproducing method for the recording medium according to claim 23, wherein a reproducing process is stopped in the case where said recording medium is neither the recording medium on which said contents data has been encrypted by said key data which becomes the key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded and recorded nor the recording medium on which said contents data has been encrypted by using said fixed value data and recorded.

25. A recording medium comprising:

a data area in which encrypted contents data is recorded; and

a management data area which is provided in a position where it is read out prior to said data area and in which data including management data of said data area and identification data showing whether the recording medium is a recording medium in which said contents data has been encryption-processed by using either key data which becomes key data only for use of the recording medium by being recorded or fixed value data or not is recorded.

26. A recording medium according to claim 25, wherein said fixed value data has been recorded in said management data area.
