Abstract

A user interface for a cellular telephone functioning as a personal digital assistant is disclosed. The user interface comprises a touch screen element positioned on a first body portion; a plurality of user interface actuator keys positioned on the first body portion below the touch screen element; and a display responsive to the touch screen user interface and positioned on a second body portion, the second body portion being movable between a closed position and an open position.

Claims

1. A user interface for a cellular telephone functioning as a personal digital assistant, said user interface comprising:

a touch screen element positioned on a first body portion;

a plurality of user interface actuator keys positioned on said first body portion below said touch screen element; and

a display responsive to said touch screen user interface and positioned on a second body portion, said second body portion being movable between a closed position and an open position.

2. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 1 wherein said display is further responsive to said plurality of user interface actuator keys.

3. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 1 further comprising a user accessible slot for receiving a memory card.

4. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 1 further comprising a user interface actuator on a side of said cellular telephone.

5. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 1 wherein said user interface comprises a dial.

7. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 1 wherein said user interface comprises a plurality of keys.

6. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim I wherein said user interface comprises a rocker arm.

8. A user interface for a cellular telephone functioning as a personal digital assistant, said user interface comprising:

a touch screen element positioned on a first body portion;

a plurality of user interface actuator keys positioned on said first body portion below said touch screen element;

a user interface actuator on a side of said cellular telephone; and

a display responsive to said touch screen user interface and positioned on a second body portion, said second body portion being movable between a closed position and an open position.

9. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 8 wherein said display is further responsive to said plurality of user interface actuator keys.

10. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 8 further comprising a user accessible slot for receiving a memory card.

11. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 8 further comprising a GPS receiver.

12. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 8 further comprising a second display.

13. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 12 wherein said second display is visible is said closed position.

14. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 12 wherein said second display provides caller ID information.

15. A user interface for a cellular telephone functioning as a personal digital assistant, said user interface comprising:

a touch screen element positioned on a first body portion;

a plurality of user interface actuator keys positioned on said first body portion below said touch screen element;

a user interface actuator on a side of said cellular telephone;

a user accessible slot for receiving a memory card; and

a display responsive to said touch screen user interface and said plurality of user interface actuator keys and positioned on a second body portion, said second body portion being movable between a closed position and an open position.

16. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 15 further comprising a GPS receiver.

17. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 15 further comprising a second display visible when said second body portion is in a closed position.

18. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 17 wherein said second display provides caller ID information.

19. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 17 further comprising a microphone receiving voice signals.

20. The user interface for a cellular telephone of claim 19 further comprising a voice recognition circuit responsive to said voice signals.
