1. A method for driving actuators for a pair of cameras which are remotely located from an operator and which form a portion of a motor vehicle highway monitoring system wherein each actuator operates only when it receives an input signal in its protocol or language which comprises:
- a) sending an output signal to an actuator of said pair (the target actuator) in a first protocol or language wherein said actuator operates only when it receives an input signal in a language different from said first language and wherein said pair of actuators respectively respond to an input signal in a second or third language;
b) converting said output signal to a neutral protocol;
c) detecting the protocol used by the targeted actuator; and
d) converting the neutral protocol to the input protocol used by said targeted actuator. e) whereby camera actuators using different protocols may be used in the same system.

Abstract
This invention relates to an apparatus and method for use in conjunction with cameras which are used to monitor motor vehicle traffic flow on highways, bridges and the like. The camera are mounted using servomotors which have made the cameras'"'"' direction to be varied by a remote operator. The invention permits cameras whose direction is driven by signals in different protocols for languages to be used in the same camera array.

2. A motor vehicle highway monitoring system having a pair of cameras which comprises:
-
a) a means for controlling the direction of the cameras which include an actuator responsive to an input signal;
b) means for sending an output signal in a first language to a user selected camera actuator (the target camera) where said actuator responds to an input signal which is in a language which is different from said output signal and wherein the camera actuates or may respond to input signals in different languages;
c) means for converting the output signal to a neutral language; and
d) means for converting said output in the neutral language to an input signal in the language of the targeted camera actuator. e) whereby camera actuators using different protocols may be used in the same system.
