Abstract

An arrangement and method for channel mapping in a UTRA TDD HSDPA wireless communication system by applying interleaving functions in first (530) and second (540) interleaving means to a bit sequence to produce symbols for mapping to physical channels, the first and second interleaving means being arranged to map symbols from respectively systematic and parity bits in a predetermined scheme, e.g., mapping symbols in a forward direction when a channel has an even index number, and in a reverse direction when a channel has an odd index number. The symbols may comprise bit-pairs, each of a systematic bit and parity bit. Systematic bits are preferably mapped to high reliability bit positions in TDD HSDPA, achieving a performance gain of between 0.2 dB and 0.5 dB. The forwards/reverse mapping allows a degree of interleaving that improves system performance in fading channels or channels disturbed by short time period noise or interference.

Claims

11. An arrangement for channel demapping in a wireless communication system, the arrangement comprising:

first and second deinterleaving means for applying deinterleaving functions to respectively first and second channels to produce a bit sequence representative of symbols mapped to respectively the first and second channels,

the first and second deinterleaving means being arranged to deinterleave symbols mapped in a predetermined scheme.

12. The arrangement of claim 11 wherein the predetermined scheme comprises mapping symbols in a forward direction when a channel has an even index number, and in a reverse direction when a channel has an odd index number.

13. The arrangement of claim 11 wherein the first and second deinterleaving means are arranged to deinterleave respectively systematic and parity bits.

14. The arrangement of claim 11 wherein the symbols are comprised of bit-pairs.

15. The arrangement of claim 14 wherein the bit-pairs each comprise a systematic bit and a parity bit.

16. The arrangement of claim 11 wherein the symbols are modulated by 16QAM modulation.

17. The arrangement of claim 11 wherein the wireless communication system is a UTRA TDD system.

18. The arrangement of claim 17 wherein the first and second channels are comprised in a transport channel.

19. The arrangement of claim 11 arranged to operate on a High Speed Downlink Shared Channel.

20. The arrangement of claim 19 arranged to operate in High Speed Downlink Packet Access.

44. User equipment for use in a wireless communication system comprising an arrangement as claimed in claim 11.

45. A base station for use in a wireless communication system comprising an arrangement as claimed in claim 11.

46. An integrated circuit comprising the arrangement of claim 11.

21. A method for channel mapping in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

applying interleaving functions in first and second interleaving means to a bit sequence to produce symbols for mapping to respectively first and second channels,

the first and second interleaving means being arranged to map symbols in a predetermined scheme.

22. The method of claim 21 wherein the predetermined scheme comprises mapping symbols in a forward direction when a channel has an even index number, and in a reverse direction when a channel has an odd index number.

23. The method of claim 21 wherein the first and second interleaving means are arranged to interleave respectively systematic and parity bits.

24. The method of claim 21 wherein the symbols are comprised of bit-pairs.

25. The method of claim 24 wherein the bit-pairs each comprise a systematic bit and a parity bit.

26. The method of claim 21 wherein the symbols are modulated by 16QAM modulation.

27. The method of claim 21 wherein the wireless communication system is a UTRA TDD system.

28. The method of claim 27 wherein the first and second channels are comprised in a transport channel.

29. The method of claim 21 operating on a High Speed Downlink Shared Channel.

30. The method of claim 29 operating in High Speed Downlink Packet Access.

43. A computer program element comprising computer program means for performing substantially the method of claim 21.

31. A method for channel demapping in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

applying deinterleaving functions in first and second deinterleaving means to respectively first and second channels to produce bit sequences representative of symbols mapped to respectively the first and second channels,

the first and second deinterleaving means deinterleaving symbols mapped in a predetermined scheme.

32. The method of claim 31 wherein the predetermined scheme comprises mapping symbols in a forward direction when a channel has an even index number, and in a reverse direction when a channel has an odd index number.

33. The method of claim 31 wherein the first and second deinterleaving means deinterleave respectively systematic and parity bits.

34. The method of claim 31 wherein the symbols are comprised of bit-pairs.

35. The method of claim 34 wherein the bit-pairs each comprise a systematic bit and a parity bit.

36. The method of claim 31 wherein the symbols are modulated by 16QAM modulation.

37. The method of claim 31 wherein the wireless communication system is a UTRA TDD system.

38. The method of claim 37 wherein the first and second channels are comprised in a transport channel.

39. The method of claim 31 operating on a High Speed Downlink Shared Channel.

40. The method of claim 39 operating in High Speed Downlink Packet Access.

47. A computer program element comprising computer program means for performing substantially the method of claim 31.
