Abstract

Providing contact data in a wireless telecommunication system comprises receiving a selection remotely for at least one contact data record in a contact database using at least one of an interactive voice response system (IVR), a voice portal, and a short message service. Next, providing contact data includes transferring wirelessly the at least one contact data record into a memory module of a mobile station in the wireless telecommunication system. In addition, providing contact data in a wireless telecommunication system may include maintaining the contact database by uploading data records into the contact database.

Claims

1. A method for providing contact data in a wireless telecommunication system, comprising:

receiving a selection remotely for at least one contact data record in a contact database using at least one of an interactive voice response system (IVR), a voice portal, and a short message service; and

transferring wirelessly the at least one contact data record into a memory module of a mobile station in the wireless telecommunication system.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving a selection remotely for the at least one contact data record in the contact database comprises using at least one of the mobile station, and a wire line telephone to select the at least one contact data record in the contact database.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein transferring wirelessly the at least one contact data record comprises using at least one of a short message service, and the internet.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving a selection remotely for the at least one contact data record and transferring wirelessly the at least one contact data record are performed automatically when a subscriber identity module (SIM) is placed in the mobile station.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one contact data record comprises data including at least one of an e-mail address, and a telephone number.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the mobile station comprises at least one of a mobile phone, a personal computer, a hand-held computing device, a multiprocessor system, microprocessor-based or programmable consumer electronic device, a minicomputer, a mainframe computer, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a facsimile machine, a telephone, a pager, and a portable computer.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising maintaining the contact database by uploading data records into the contact database.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein uploading the data records into the contact database comprises using at least one of an interactive voice response system (IVR), internet web pages, a voice portal, and a short message service.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein uploading the data records into the contact database comprises using at least one of the mobile station, and a wire line telephone.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the contact database is hosted by a wireless telecommunication system provider.

11. A system for providing contact data in a wireless telecommunication system, comprising:

a component for receiving a selection remotely for at least one contact data record from a contact database using at least one of an interactive voice response system (IVR), a voice portal, and a short message service; and

a component for transferring wirelessly the at least one contact data record into a memory module of a mobile station in the wireless telecommunication system.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the component for receiving a selection remotely for the at least one contact data record in the contact database is further configured for using at least one of the mobile station, and a wire line telephone to select the at least one contact data record in the contact database.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the component for transferring wirelessly the at least one contact data record is further configured for using at least one of a short message service, and the internet.

14. The system of claim 11, further comprising a subscriber identity module (SIM), the component for receiving and the component for transferring wirelessly further configured for performing their function automatically when the subscriber identity module (SIM) is placed in the mobile station.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein the at least one contact data record comprises data including at least one of an e-mail address, and a telephone number.

16. The system of claim 11, wherein the mobile station comprises at least one of a mobile phone, a personal computer, a hand-held computing device, a multiprocessor system, microprocessor-based or programmable consumer electronic device, a minicomputer, a mainframe computer, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a facsimile machine, a telephone, a pager, and a portable computer.

17. The system of claim 11, further comprising a component for maintaining the contact database by uploading data records into the contact database.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein uploading the data records into the contact database comprises using at least one of an interactive voice response system (IVR), internet web pages, a voice portal, and a short message service.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein uploading the data records into the contact database comprises using at least one of the mobile station, and a wire line telephone.

20. The system of claim 11, wherein the contact database is hosted by a wireless telecommunication system provider.

21. A computer-readable medium on which is stored a set of instructions for providing contact data in a wireless telecommunication system, which when executed perform stages comprising:

receiving a selection remotely for at least one contact data record in a contact database using at least one of an interactive voice response system (IVR), a voice portal, and a short message service; and

transferring wirelessly the at least one contact data record into a memory module of a mobile station in the wireless telecommunication system.

The computer-readable medium of claim 21, wherein receiving a selection remotely for the at least one contact data record in the contact database comprises using at least one of the mobile station, and a wire line telephone to select the at least one contact data record from the contact database.

23. The computer-readable medium of claim 21, wherein transferring wirelessly the at least one contact data record comprises using at least one of a short message service, and the internet.

24. The computer-readable medium of claim 21, wherein receiving a selection remotely for at least one contact data record and transferring wirelessly the at least one contact data record are performed automatically when a subscriber identity module (SIM) is placed in the mobile station.

25. The computer-readable medium of claim 21, wherein the at least one contact data record comprises data including at least one of an e-mail address, and a telephone number.

26. The computer-readable medium of claim 21, wherein the mobile station comprises at least one of a mobile phone, a personal computer, a hand-held computing device, a multiprocessor system, microprocessor-based or programmable consumer electronic device, a minicomputer, a mainframe computer, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a facsimile machine, a telephone, a pager, and a portable computer.

27. The computer-readable medium of claim 21, further comprising maintaining the contact database by uploading data records into the contact database.

28. The computer-readable medium of claim 27, wherein uploading the data records into the contact database comprises using at least one of an interactive voice response system (IVR), internet web pages, a voice portal, and a short message service.

29. The computer-readable medium of claim 27, wherein uploading the data records into the contact database comprises using at least one of the mobile station, and a wire line telephone.

30. The computer-readable medium of claim 21, wherein the contact database is hosted by a wireless telecommunication system provider.
