1. - A method of translating identifiers (ITe) of terminals (T1-TE) in a client telecommunication installation (IC), said identifiers having a predetermined format and being included in packets (ER) in transit through a packet transmission network (RP), characterized in that the identifier (ITe) of a terminal (Te) included as a source address (@IPS) in a first network packet (PQ1) transmitted from the terminal through the client installation (IC) is translated (E0-E4) into a predetermined identifier (IPI) of the installation (IC) having said format and included in a second network packet (PQ2) which is transmitted in the packet network (RP) to telephone service provider means (SP), and a port number (PORT1-PORTJ) designating a voice call step (E2-EJ) involving the terminal (Te) and included in a transport packet (ET) encapsulated in the first network packet (PQ1) is translated into a port number (Pe1-PeJ) allocated dynamically to the terminal (Te) and included in a transport packet (ET) encapsulated in the second network packet (PQ2) in order to identify both said terminal and the call step involving the terminal in the provider means (SP), and conversely, the identifier (IPI) of the installation (IC) included as a destination address (@IPD) in a third network packet (PQ3) which is transmitted in the packet network (RP) from the provider means (SP) to the installation (IC) through the packet network (RP) and the port number (Pe1-PeJ) included in a transport packet encapsulated in the third network packet (PQ3) are translated respectively into the identifier (ITe) of the terminal included in a fourth network packet (PQ4) transmitted to the terminal (Te) through the installation (IC) and the port number (PORT1-PORTJ) designating the voice call step (E2-EJ) and included in a transport packet encapsulated in the fourth network packet (PQ4).
