Abstract

An injection device for injection of a medicament cartridge (40) is disclosed. The injection device comprises a drive mechanism 42 including a motor (54) for selectively dispending the medicament from the medicament cartridge (40), an electronic control unit for controlling operation of the drive mechanism and a detector to detec slipping of the motor. Upon detection of slipping of the motor (54) the electronic control unit halts the drive mechanism (42).

Claims

1. An injection device for injection of a medicament from a medicament cartridge 40, the injection device comprising a drive mechanism 42 including a motor 54 for selectively dispensing the medicament from the medicament cartridge 40, an electronic control unit for controlling operation of the drive mechanism and a detector to detect slipping of the motor in which upon detection of slipping of the motor 54 the electronic control unit halts the drive mechanism 42.

2. An injection device according to claim 1 characterised in that the detector comprises a one bit encoder.

3. An injection device according to claim 2 characterised in that the drive mechanism 42 additionally comprises a gear train 56 and in that the encoder comprises a conductive transducer mounted at a first stage in the gear train 56.

4. An injection device according to any of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the injection device further comprises a display panel 10, the electronic control unit causing the display panel 10 to indicate that an error has occurred when the detector detects slipping of the motor 54.
