AUTOMATED BANKING MACHINE HOUSING WITH IMPROVED SERVICE ACCESS
First Claim
1. An automated banking machine apparatus comprising:
- a housing including a chest area and an upper housing area, the chest area housing a currency dispenser device, and wherein access to the chest area is controlled by a lockable chest door movably mounted in supporting connection with the housing;
an upper housing area outside the chest area and including a first portion and a second portion;
a display positioned in the second portion;
a first fascia portion movably mounted in supporting connection with the housing and adapted to control access to the first portion;
a second fascia portion movably mounted in supporting connection with the housing and independently movable of the first fascia portion, and wherein the second fascia portion is adapted to control access to the second portion, and wherein the second fascia portion includes an opening, and wherein in an operative position of the second fascia portion the display is viewable through the opening;
a fascia lock, wherein the fascia lock is selectively operable, and wherein in a locked condition the fascia lock is operative to prevent access to the first portion;
a chest lock input device adapted to receive at least one input unlocking the chest door, wherein the chest lock input is housed in the first portion.

Abstract
An automated banking machine (10) includes a lockable first fascia portion (20) which when unlocked enables access to a chest lock input device (104), inputs to which enable opening a chest door (18) of the machine. Opening the first fascia portion also enables access to an actuator (116) which enables moving a second fascia portion (22) for conducting service activities. A baffle structure (164) is positioned on the housing adjacent the second fascia portion to enable cooling air flow within the housing of the machine and to prevent the introduction of moisture into the housing. A controller (72) in the machine selectively illuminates light emitting devices (118, 126) for purposes of facilitating user operation of the machine. Sensing devices (128) adjacent a card reader slot (28) on the machine enables the controller to detect the presence of unauthorized card reading devices. Servicing the machine is facilitated through use of a portable diagnostic article (98) which enables the controller to access diagnostic data stored in memory and which provides data indicative of the significance of the diagnostic data.
