Abstract

A method and apparatus for authenticating entities to use an intelligent interactive Electronic Document Code stored in an RFID tag attached to a document as a means for third parties to ascertain a document is not counterfeit and has not been revoked or changed. In addition, such intelligent RFID tags can uniquely identify a particular document and data related to the document. The authenticating agency can utilize a public or private Electronic Document Code database as a means for the authenticating agency and third parties to authenticate documents and data in documents. The intelligent interactive Electronic Document Code can be used as an anti counterfeit mechanism enabling third parties requested to provide services, benefits or monetary payments to authenticate documents and or the data associated with the document is not counterfeit.

Claims

1. A life document, the life document comprising:

a printable media, the printable media having a display surface, the display surface visually presenting information via visible symbols;

an RFID device, the RFID device physically coupled with the printable media, and the RFID comprising a radio frequency transceiver, a controller, and a writeable memory;

the radio frequency transceiver coupled with the controller and the writeable memory;

the controller for directing information received by the radio transceiver into the writeable memory; and

the writeable memory containing vital records information associated with a specific living entity.

2. The life document of claim 1, wherein the living entity is a human being.

3. The life document of claim 2, wherein the media is a document selected from the group of documents consisting of a birth certificate, a death certificate, a marriage certificate, an adoption certificate, a will, a deed for real property, and a certified copy of a document.

4. The life document of claim 2, wherein the vital records information comprises a birth record.

5. The life document of claim 2, wherein the vital records information comprises a death record.

6. The life document of claim 2, wherein the vital records information comprises a marriage record.

7. The life document of claim 2, wherein the vital records information comprises both hidden stored data contained in an RFID tag and visible printed information selected from the group of information consisting of individual demographic data, unique individual identity data, DNA data, biometric data, and an account number.

8. The life document of claim 7, wherein the biometric data comprises data selected from the group consisting of DNA information, a fingerprint pattern, an iris pattern, a retina pattern, a voice print, and an amino acid combination.

9. The life document of claim 1, wherein the RFID device further comprises a GPS receiver, the GPS receiver coupled with the controller, and the GPS receiver for determining the geographic location of the life document by receiving and processing GPS signals by the RFID device.

10. A method of providing vital records information in a life document and monitoring the access and authentication of personal identity information in subsequent transactions requiring proof of personal identity thereof, comprising:

a. providing a life document, the life document including a printable media and an RFID device;

the printable media having a display surface, the display surface visually presenting information via visible symbols;

the RFID device physically coupled with the printable media, and the RFID comprising a radio frequency transceiver, a controller, and a writeable memory;

the radio frequency transceiver coupled with the controller and the writeable memory;

the controller for directing information received by the radio transceiver into the writeable memory;

the writeable memory containing vital records information associated with a specific living entity;

b. receiving a request to access information stored in the life document via a radio transmission from an external RF transmitter;

c. determining a requesting identity of the external RF transmitter; and

d. storing the requesting identity in the writeable memory of the RFID device.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising storing the date and time of the occurrence of the request to access information by the external RF transmitter.

12. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

e. providing data to the RFID device via the external transmitter;

f. receiving a request via the external transmitter to store the data in the writeable memory of the RFID device.

The method of claim 12, wherein the data comprises information selected from the group of information consisting of biometric data, personal identification data, financial information, an educational record, immigration data, passport data, vehicle license data, an employment record, and medical data.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the biometric data comprises data selected from the group consisting of DNA information, a fingerprint pattern, an iris pattern, a retina pattern, a voice print, and an amino acid combination.

15. The method of claim 10, the method further comprising:

a. the RFID device further including a GPS receiver, the GPS receiver coupled with the controller, and the GPS receiver for determining the geographic location of the life document by receiving and processing GPS signals by the RFID device;

b. receiving GPS signals substantially simultaneously to receiving the request to access information via the external RF transmitter;

c. generating a location information by processing the GPS signals by the RFID device;

d. associating the location information with the requesting identity; and

e. storing the resultant location information in the writeable memory of the RFID.

16. A method for storing information in a certified copy of a document, comprising:

attaching an RFID circuit to the certified copy, the RFID circuit comprising a writeable memory; and

communicating information to the RFID via a radio frequency transmission;

storing the information in the writeable memory of the RFID.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the document is a birth certificate.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the document is selected from the group consisting of a death certificate, a marriage certificate, an adoption certificate, a will, and a deed for real property.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein the intelligent digital Electronic Document code contained in the RFID can be used to as a method of avoiding counterfeit checks. Said RFID can be embedded in a check and read to replace existing MICR codes on checks, or used to authenticate MICR coding on a check and validate a check was authorized and printed by a bank or its third parties. The ability for the intelligent RFID embedded in a printed check to uniquely identify a particular instance of a printed check and be used by third parties in automated business processes to authenticate issuers, payees, the amount of the check as well dynamic related data including lost, stolen, revoked or cashed. In addition, the RFID tag can be used to initiate and validate a Direct Deposit request. The ability for the issuer of the check to include a personal identity code with the EDC.

The method of claim 19, wherein the biometric data comprises data selected from the group consisting of DNA information, a fingerprint pattern, an iris pattern, a retina pattern, a voice print, and an amino acid distribution. The method of claim 19, wherein the biometric data comprises data selected from the group consisting of DNA information, a fingerprint pattern, an iris pattern, a retina pattern, a voice print, and an amino acid distribution.

21. The method of claim 16, wherein the information comprises information selected from the group of information consisting of biometric data, personal identification data, financial information, an educational record, immigration data, passport data, vehicle license data, an employment record, lien information, and medical data.

22. The method of claim 16, wherein the document is a document selected from the group consisting of a rebate, a coupon, a monetary note, a currency bill, a lien document, and a financial instrument.
