Abstract

A portable electronic device (100) and method (400) is capable of editing processed data input. The portable electronic device (100) comprises a display area (224) and a processor (206) coupled to the display area. The device collects (404) data input and, then, removes (412) the data input from the display area in response to detecting (406) an input delay. Thereafter, the processor, in response to receiving (416) an undo command message, provides (426) the data input and/or a processed version of the data input to the display area.

Claims

1. A method for editing processed data input, for a portable electronic device having a display area, comprising:

collecting a data input;

detecting an input delay;

removing the data input from the display area in response to detecting the input delay;

receiving an undo command input; and

providing at least one of either the data input and a processed version of the data input to the display area.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of processing the data input, in response to the step of detecting, to produce the processed version of the data input.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of storing at least one of either the data input and the processed version of the data input before the step of removing.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of collecting the data input includes the step of providing the data input at the display area.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of detecting the input delay includes the step of determining that a predetermined time period of inactivity for collecting the data input has been exceeded.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of activating an undo actuator in response to the step of detecting.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising the step of inactivating the undo actuator in response to the step of receiving.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of providing at least one of either the data input and the processed version of the data input at a second display area in response to the step of removing.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising the step of removing the at least one of either the data input and the processed version of the data input from the second display area in response to the step of providing.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising the steps of:

collecting a second data input;

modifying the at least one of either the data input and the processed version of the data input based on the second data input to produce a modified data input; and

processing the modified data input to produce modified processed information.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of providing includes the step of shifting the at least one of either the data input and the processed version of the data input within the display area.

12. A portable electronic device comprising:

a display area; and

a processor, coupled to the display area, configured to remove a data input from the display area in response to detecting an input delay and, subsequently, provide at least one of either the data input and a processed version of the data input to the display area in response to receiving an undo command input.

13. The portable electronic device of claim 12, further comprising a touch screen, overlaying the display area, configured to provide the data input to the processor.

14. The portable electronic device of claim 12, further comprising a keypad, coupled to the processor, configured to provide the data input to the processor.

15. The portable electronic device of claim 12, wherein an audio input, coupled to the processor, configured to provide the data input to the processor.

16. The portable electronic device of claim 12, wherein the processor determines that the input delay has occurred when a predetermined time period of inactivity for collecting the data input has been exceeded.

17. The portable electronic device of claim 12, further comprising an undo actuator that is active after the processor detects the input delay and is inactive after the processor receives the undo command input.

18. The portable electronic device of claim 12, wherein the processor generates the processed version of the data input based on the data input.

19. The portable electronic device of claim 12, wherein further comprising a memory portion configured to store the at least one of either the data input and the processed version of the data input.

20. The portable electronic device of claim 12, further comprising a second display area configured to provide at least one of either the data input and the processed version of the data input when it is removed from the display area.

21. The portable electronic device of claim 12, wherein the processor shifts the at least one of either the data input and the processed version of the data input within the display area.
