1. A method for communicating over a single pair twisted conductive path, comprising:

  • applying signals from a transmit port of a 10BaseT Ethernet station onto said conductive path at a first point of connection while presenting a relatively high impedance to signals on said conductive path at frequencies used by ordinary telephone devices, receiving signals at the receive port of the 10BaseT Ethernet station from said first point of connection to said conductive path while presenting a relatively high impedance to signals on said conductive path at frequencies used by ordinary telephone devices, and transmitting and receiving telephone signals through a second point of connection to said conductive path while presenting a high impedance to signals above the frequencies used by ordinary telephones, replacing the connection between said first point of connection and said transmit port to said connection between said first point of connection and said receive port whenever no signals are being transmitted from said transmit port and signals are detected on said transmission line, wherein said applying of signals and said receiving of signals occur during non-overlapping segments of time.
