Abstract

Disclosed are systems and methods for reducing vibration in a device mounting structure, the method comprising determining when the vibration level of the device mounting structure exceeds a first threshold, and reducing the data transfer rate of at least one data transfer device mounted to the device mounting structure an amount sufficient to reduce the vibration to a level below a second threshold.

Claims

1. A method of reducing vibration in a device mounting structure, said method comprising:

determining when the vibration level of said device mounting structure exceeds a first threshold, and

reducing the data transfer rate of at least one data transfer device mounted to said device mounting structure an amount sufficient to reduce the vibration to a level below a second threshold.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said device is a computer.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein said first and second thresholds are the same.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein said reducing comprises reducing said transfer rate in increments.

5. The method of claim 2 wherein said determining comprises tri-axial measurements taken with respect to said device mounting structure.

6. The method of claim 2 wherein said determining comprises:

comparing a frequency and amplitude signal from said device mounting structure to a desired frequency and amplitude signal for a given data transfer device.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein said comparing comprises obtaining said desired signal by recording normal vibrations generated from said given data transfer device.

8. The method of claim 2 wherein said threshold is user controlled.

9. A system for reducing vibrations in a device, said system comprising:

circuitry for generating a signal corresponding to the vibration level of said device;

comparator circuitry for comparing generated ones of said vibration level signals against known vibration level signals of said device; and

means for providing a control signal when a compared vibration level signal is outside an accepted range.

10. The system of claim 9 wherein said device includes a data transfer device and wherein said system further comprises:

a controller for reducing the data transfer rate of said data transfer device under at least partial control of provided ones of said signals.

11. The system of claim 9 wherein said vibration level signal comprises frequency and amplitude components.

12. A system for reducing vibrations in a device, said system comprising:

means for generating a signal corresponding to the vibration level of said device;

means for comparing generated ones of said vibration level signals against known vibration level signals of said device; and

means for providing a control signal when a compared vibration level signal is outside an accepted range.

13. The system of claim 12 wherein said device is a data transfer device.

14. The system of claim 12 wherein said device includes a data transfer device and wherein said system further comprises:

means for reducing the data transfer rate of said data transfer device under at least partial control of provided ones of said signals.

15. The system of claim 12 wherein said vibration level signal comprises frequency and amplitude components.

16. A method for reducing vibrations in a device, said system comprising:

generating a signal corresponding to the vibration level of said device;

comparing generated ones of said vibration level signals against known vibration level signals of said device; and

providing a control signal when a compared vibration level signal is outside an accepted range.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein said device is a data transfer device.

18. The method of claim 16 wherein said device includes a data transfer device and wherein said method further comprises:

reducing the data transfer rate of said data transfer device under at least partial control of provided ones of said signals.

19. The method of claim 16 wherein said vibration level signal comprises frequency and amplitude components.

20. The method of claim 19 wherein said control signal is pre-generated and recorded using said device.

21. The method of claim 19 wherein said control signal is pre-generated and recorded using a standard device.

22. A method for determining which of a plurality of devices to use at any given time, said method comprising:

determining from a vibration level of a given device if such device is suitable for using at said given time.

23. The method of claim 22 wherein said determining comprises:

obtaining a current vibration of housing containing said device.

24. The method of claim 23 wherein said determining further comprises:

comparing obtained current vibrations against a stored desired vibration level.

25. The method of claim 22 further comprises:

selecting a device for use dependant, at least in part, on said determined vibration level.
