Abstract

A method of generating an image. The method comprises the steps of: accessing a digital still image comprising a plurality of subjects; applying a subject detection algorithm to the digital still image to detect the plurality of subjects to generate a plurality of subject images, each of the subject images comprising at least one detected subject; and displaying, on a display of the imaging device, at least one portion of the digital still image comprising one of the plurality of subject images.

Claims

1. A method of generating an image, comprising the steps of:

accessing a digital still image comprising a plurality of subjects;

applying a subject detection algorithm to the digital still image to detect the plurality of subjects to generate a plurality of subject images, each of the subject images comprising at least one detected subject; and

displaying, on a display of the imaging device, at least one portion of the digital still image comprising one of the plurality of subject images.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of, prior to displaying the plurality of subject images, displaying the digital still image on the display.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of:

providing a selection member for selecting the at least one portion;

generating a candidate image comprising the selected at least one portion and a template; and

displaying the candidate image on the display.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of printing, storing, or transmitting the at least one portion.

52. A computer storage product having at least one computer storage medium having instructions stored therein causing one or more computers to perform the method of claim 1.

5. A method of generating an image, comprising the steps of:

accessing a digital still image comprising a plurality of subjects;

applying a subject detection algorithm to the digital still image to detect the plurality of subjects to generate a plurality of subject images, each of the subject images comprising at least one detected subject;

displaying the plurality of subject images on a display of an imaging device;

providing a selection member for selecting at least one of the plurality of subject images;

displaying, on the display, a plurality of candidate images, each of the candidate images comprising a template and the selected at least one of the plurality of subject images, the template of one candidate image differing from the template of another candidate image;

providing a selection member for selecting one of the plurality of candidate images; and

displaying on the display the selected one of the plurality of candidate images.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of, prior to displaying the plurality of subject images on the display, displaying the digital still image on the display.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the step of displaying the plurality of subject images is accomplished by categorizing the content of each of the plurality of subject images, and displaying the plurality of subject images by category.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the templates are provided in accordance with the category.

9. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of storing, transmitting, or printing the selected one of the plurality of candidate images.

10. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of providing, on the display proximate the displayed selected one of the plurality of candidate images, an order menu adapted to receive an image order for the selected one of the plurality of candidate images.

11. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of providing textual information or instructional information on the display.

12. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of allowing a user to zoom and/or crop the selected one of the plurality of candidate images to generate a modified candidate image.

13. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of providing an indicating member for indicating a number of subject images to be selected.

14. The method of claim 5, wherein each template includes a predetermined location adapted to receive one of the plurality of subject images.

15. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of printing, storing, or transmitting the selected one of the plurality of candidate images.

16. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of providing textual information on the selected one of the plurality of candidate images.

17. A method of generating an image, comprising the steps of:

accessing a digital still image comprising a plurality of subjects;

applying a subject detection algorithm to the digital still image to detect the plurality of subjects to generate a plurality of subject images, each of the subject images comprising at least one detected subject;

displaying the plurality of subject images on the display of the imaging device;

providing a selection member for selecting at least one of the plurality of subject images;

displaying, on the display, the selected at least one of the plurality of subject images and a plurality of candidate templates, one candidate template differing from another candidate template;

providing a selection member for selecting one of the candidate templates; and

displaying, on the display, a candidate image comprising the selected at least one of the plurality of subject images and the selected one of the candidate templates.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of, prior to displaying the plurality of subject images on the display, displaying the digital still image on the display.

19. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of storing, transmitting, or printing the candidate image.

20. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of providing, on the display proximate the displayed candidate image, an order menu adapted to receive an image order for the candidate image.

21. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of providing textual information or instructional information on the display.

22. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of allowing a user to zoom and/or crop the displayed candidate image to generate a modified candidate image.

23. The method of claim 17, wherein each candidate template includes a predetermined location adapted to receive one of the plurality of subject images.

24. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of, prior to displaying the selected at least one of the plurality of subject images and a plurality of candidate templates, providing an indicating member for indicating a number of subject images to be selected.

25. The method of claim 17, wherein the step of displaying the plurality of subject images is accomplished by categorizing the content of each of the plurality of subject images, and displaying the plurality of subject images by category.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein the templates are provided in accordance with the category.

27. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of printing, storing, or transmitting the candidate image.

28. The method of claim 17, further comprising the step of providing textual information on the candidate image.

29. A method of generating a photo collage, comprising the steps of:

accessing a digital still image comprising a plurality of subjects;

applying a subject detection algorithm to the digital still image to detect the plurality of subjects to generate a plurality of subject images, each of the subject images comprising one detected subject;

forming a photo collage comprising the plurality of subject images; and

displaying the photo collage on the display of the imaging device.

30. The method of claim 29, further comprising the step of storing, transmitting, or printing the photo collage.

31. The method of claim 29, wherein the photo collage is formed by arranging the plurality of subject images in a predetermined layout.

32. The method of claim 31, wherein the content of each of the subject images is categorized, and the plurality of subject images are arranged in the predetermined layout in accordance with the categorization of the subject images.

33. The method of claim 29, further comprising the step of forming the photo collage comprising the plurality of subject images and the digital still image.

34. The method of claim 29, further comprising the step of printing, storing, or transmitting the photo collage.

35. The method of claim 29, further comprising the step of providing textual information on the photo collage.

36. The method of claim 29, wherein the step of forming a photo collage comprising the plurality of subject images further comprises the step of re-arranging the plurality of subject images.

37. A method of generating a photo collage, comprising the steps of:

accessing a digital still image comprising a plurality of subjects;

applying a subject detection algorithm to the digital still image to detect the plurality of subjects to generate a plurality of subject images, each of the subject images comprising at least one detected subject;

providing a template having a predetermined location adapted to receive one of the plurality of subject images;

generating a plurality of template images, each template image comprising the template and one of the plurality of subject images disposed within the predetermined location;

forming a photo collage comprising the plurality of template images; and

displaying the photo collage on the display of the imaging device.

38. The method of claim 37, further comprising the step of storing, transmitting, or printing the photo collage.

39. The method of claim 37, wherein the photo collage is formed by arranging the plurality of template images in a predetermined layout.

40. The method of claim 39, wherein the content of each of the template images is categorized, and the plurality of template images are arranged in the predetermined layout in accordance with the categorization of the template images.

41. The method of claim 37, further comprising the step of forming the photo collage comprising the plurality of template images and the digital still image.

42. The method of claim 37, further comprising the step of printing, storing, or transmitting the photo collage.

43. The method of claim 37, further comprising the step of providing textual information on the photo collage.

44. A method of generating a photo collage, comprising the steps of:

accessing a digital still image comprising a plurality of subjects;

applying a subject detection algorithm to the digital still image to detect the plurality of subjects to generate a plurality of subject images, each of the subject images comprising one detected subject;

providing a first and second template, the first and second template each having a predetermined location adapted to receive one of the plurality of subject images;

categorizing the content of each of the plurality of subject images;

associating one of the two templates with each of the plurality of subject images in accordance with the categorization;

generating a plurality of template images, each template image comprising the one of the plurality of subject images and the associated template wherein the one of the plurality of subject images is disposed within the predetermined location of the associated template;

forming a photo collage comprising the plurality of template images; and

displaying the photo collage on the display of the imaging device.

45. The method of claim 44, further comprising the step of storing, transmitting, or printing the photo collage.

46. The method of claim 44, wherein the photo collage is formed by arranging the plurality of template images in a predetermined layout.

47. The method of claim 46, wherein the plurality of template images are arranged in the predetermined layout in accordance with the categorization of the template images.

48. The method of claim 44, further comprising the step of forming the photo collage comprising the plurality of template images and the digital still image.

49. The method of claim 44, further comprising the step of printing, storing, or transmitting the photo collage.

50. The method of claim 44, further comprising the step of providing textual information on the photo collage.

51. A method of generating an image, comprising the steps of:

accessing a digital still image comprising a plurality of subjects;

applying a subject detection algorithm to the digital still image to detect the plurality of subjects to generate a plurality of subject images, each of the subject images comprising one detected subject;

providing means for indicating a number of subject images to be selected;

providing a selection member for selecting the subject images; and

displaying, on a display of an imaging device, at least one candidate image, the candidate image comprising the selected subject images.
