Method for operating multiple overlapping wireless networks
First Claim
1. A method of operating a plurality of wireless networks, comprising:
- transmitting first signals in a first network at a first carrier frequency;
transmitting second signals in a second network at a second carrier frequency, the second carrier frequency being different from the first carrier frequency, wherein the first carrier frequency is offset from a base carrier frequency by an amount equal to n times an offset frequency, wherein the second carrier frequency is offset from the base carrier frequency by an amount equal to m times the offset frequency, wherein n is an integer, m is an integer, and m does not equal n.

Abstract
A method is provided for operating a plurality of overlapping wireless networks such that they do not interfere with each other. This is accomplished by having each network transmit at a frequency that is offset from a base frequency by an integer multiple of an offset frequency. The offset frequency is generally a small fraction of the base frequency so that the spectral properties of each network are roughly the same. However, each network will transmit at a unique frequency with respect to all of the other overlapping networks. The offset values are preferably symmetrical around zero, and the offset for one network can be zero.
