1. A surgical device for use in surgery comprising a mounting element;
- a sealing member of pliable material mounted to the mounting element, the sealing member having a normally closed access opening; and
at least a portion of the sealing member being movable on insertion of an object such as a surgeon'"'"'s hand to open the access opening whilst maintaining substantial sealing engagement with the object.

Abstract
A surgical device comprises a mounting element provided by a first ring element 200 and a second ring element 201. A sealing member in the form of a sleeve 202 of pliable material has ends mounted to the rings 200, 201. The sleeve 202 is twisted to have a normally closed access opening 207 and is movable on insertion of a surgeon'"'"'s hand/arm 210 to open the access opening 207 whilst maintaining substantial sealing engagement to the arm 210. A biassing means is provided to bias the sleeve into a configuration in which the access opening 207 is normally closed. The biassing may be provided by pre-tensioning the sleeve 202 and/or by using a separate spring element 220, 215.
