Abstract

An information recording medium includes a first area (DA2) for storing picture data for forming a plurality of pictures, a second area (DA21) which is included in the first area and stores control data of the picture data, and a third area (INFO1) which is included in the second area and stores specifying data for specifying the storage position of representative picture data for forming a representative picture in the plurality of pictures.

Claims

1. An information reproducing method for handling a disc representative picture recorded on an information recording disc, wherein the information recording disc includes a first area of a managing file in which management information is stored and a second area of an audio file or a video file in which audio or video information is stored, the information recording disc having at least one object recorded in the audio or video file and management information recorded in the managing file, the object includes object units, the object units each include at least one of a video pack in which video data is recorded and an audio pack in which audio data is recorded, and the management information includes a management table, a plurality of program chain information included in original program chain information, a plurality of cell information, and disc representative picture information for one disc representative picture, the plurality of program chain information designates respective cell reproduction orders, the cell information represents portions of the object, the disc representative picture information includes information regarding a program chain number included in the original program chain information, a cell number, and a picture point as a presentation time of a picture representing recording contents of the disc in the object unit, and information regarding a time when the disc representative picture was made, the disc representative picture is any picture included in the object, the management table includes a start address of the original program chain information, and the program chain information includes associated general information and associated cell information in this order, the information reproducing method comprising:

a first step of reading the management information, and referring to the management table, the original program chain information and the plurality of cell information;

a second step of ignoring the disc representative picture information; and

a third step of reproducing the audio or video data based on the management information.

An information reproducing apparatus for handling a disc representative picture recorded on an information recording disc, wherein the information recording disc includes a first area of a managing file in which management information is stored, and a second area of an audio file or a video file in which audio or video information is stored, the information recording disc having at least one object recorded in the audio or video file and management information recorded in the managing file, the object includes object units, the object units each include at least one of a video pack in which video data is recorded and an audio pack in which audio data is recorded, and the management information includes a management table, a plurality of program chain information included in original program chain information, a plurality of cell information, and disc representative picture information for one disc representative picture, the plurality of program chain information designates respective cell reproduction orders, the cell information represents portions of the object, the disc representative picture information includes information regarding a program chain number included in the original program chain information, a cell number, and a picture point as a presentation time of a picture representing recording contents of the disc in the object unit, and information regarding a time when the disc representative picture was made, the disc representative picture is any picture included in the object, the management table includes a start address of the original program chain information, and the program chain information includes associated general information and associated cell information in this order, the information reproducing apparatus comprising:

first means for reading the management information, and referring to the management table, the original program chain information and the plurality of cell information;

second means for ignoring the disc representative picture information; and

third means for reproducing the audio or video data based on the management information.
