Abstract

A method and apparatus for determining when to remind a user about a task in a to-do list based on the user'"'"'s current geo-location are disclosed. The illustrative embodiment employs a to-do list in which tasks have an associated geo-location, and optionally, a priority and/or a due date. The illustrative embodiment determines whether to remind the user about a task in the to-do list based on information including the following: the user'"'"'s current location; the user'"'"'s speed and direction of travel; the geo-locations of tasks in the to-do list; the priorities of tasks in the to-do list; and the due dates of tasks in the to-do list.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

a memory for storing a to-do list, wherein said to-do list comprises at least one task, and wherein each said task is associated with a respective geo-location; and

a processor for;

(a) receiving a current geo-location; and

(b) determining whether to output a reminder based on said current geo-location and said respective geo-locations.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein:

said processor is also for receiving a speed; and

said determining is also based on said speed.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein:

said processor is also for receiving a direction; and

said determining is also based on said direction.

4. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein:

said processor is also for receiving a speed; and

said determining is also based on said speed.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein (b) comprises determining which of said respective geo-locations is within a distance threshold of said current geo-location.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein:

said processor is also for receiving a speed; and

said distance threshold is based on said speed.

7. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein:

said processor is also for receiving a direction; and

said determining whether to output said reminder is also based on said direction.

8. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein:

said processor is also for choosing a selected task in said to-do list, wherein the geo-location associated with that task is within said distance threshold of said current location; and

said reminder is based on said selected task.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein said selected task is chosen based on the distance between said current geo-location and the geo-location associated with said selected task.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein said selected task is also chosen based on said current geo-location'"'"'s proximity to at least one other of said geo-locations within said distance threshold.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein:

at least one of said tasks has a respective priority; and

said selected task is chosen based on at least one of said priorities.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein:

at least one of said tasks has a respective due date; and

said selected task is chosen based on at least one of said due dates.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a transducer for:

receiving said reminder from said processor; and

generating an output signal based on said reminder.

14. A method for reminding a user about a task in a to-do list, wherein said to-do list comprises at least one task, and wherein each of said tasks is associated with a respective geo-location, said method comprising:

(a) receiving a current geo-location;

(b) choosing a selected task in said to-do list, wherein the geo-location associated with said selected task is within a distance threshold of said current geo-location; and

(c) outputting a reminder based on said selected task.

15. The method of claim 14 further comprising:

receiving a speed,

wherein said distance threshold is based on said speed.

16. The method of claim 14 further comprising:

receiving a direction,

wherein said selected task is chosen based on said direction.

17. The method of claim 14 wherein said selected task is chosen based on the distance between said current geo-location and the geo-location associated with said selected task.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein said selected task is also chosen based on said current geo-location'"'"'s proximity to at least one other of said geo-locations within said distance threshold.

19. The method of claim 14 wherein:

at least one of said tasks has a respective priority; and

said selected task is chosen based on at least one of said priorities.

20. The method of claim 14 wherein:

at least one of said tasks has a respective due date; and

said selected task is chosen based on at least one of said due dates.
