Abstract

A method for providing a context specific speaker adaptation user interface is disclosed. The method allows a specific user of a voice activated system to train a voice recognition system to understand specific uttered commands by receiving a training sequence initiation input, sending at least one command to be trained, receiving a selection input, prompting a verbal input, recording the verbal input, and linking a voice input with an instruction corresponding with the command input.

Claims

1. A method for customizing an in-vehicle communication system, the method comprising:

receiving a training sequence initiation input from an in-vehicle user;

sending at least one command to be trained responsive to the initiation input;

receiving a selection input corresponding to the command;

sending a prompt for the user'"'"'s verbal command input for the command corresponding with the selection input;

recording the user'"'"'s verbal command input; and

linking the recorded verbal command input with an instruction corresponding with the command input.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one command to be trained comprises a predetermined list of commands.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising receiving the selection input while providing the list to the in-vehicle user and selecting the command provided immediately preceding the selection input.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the training sequence initiation input comprises receiving a button push.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein sending the at least one command further comprises a communication method selected from a group consisting of ASCII characters, prerecorded speech, and computer generated speech.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising confirming the user'"'"'s selection input.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein confirming the user'"'"'s selection input further comprises confirming the user'"'"'s verbal command input by playing the recording of the user'"'"'s verbal command input.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the user'"'"'s verbal command input is stored at a location selected from the group consisting of the user'"'"'s vehicle and a call service center.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein sending the prompt for a user'"'"'s verbal command input comprises a communication method selected from a group consisting of ASCII characters, prerecorded speech, and computer generated speech.

10. A computer readable medium storing a computer program for customizing an in-vehicle communication system comprising:

computer readable code for receiving a training sequence initiation input from an in-vehicle user;

computer readable code for sending at least one command to be trained responsive to the initiation input;

computer readable code for receiving a selection input corresponding to the command;

computer readable code for sending a prompt for user'"'"'s verbal command input for the command corresponding with the selection input;

computer readable code for recording the user'"'"'s verbal command input; and

;

computer readable code for linking the recorded verbal command input with an instruction corresponding with the command.

11. The computer readable medium of claim 10 wherein the computer readable code for sending the at least one command to be trained comprises a predetermined list of commands.

12. The computer readable medium of claim 11 further comprising computer readable code for receiving the selection input while providing the list to the in-vehicle user, selecting the command provided immediately preceding the selection input.

13. The computer readable medium of claim 10 further comprising computer readable code for confirming the in-vehicle user'"'"'s selection.

15. The computer readable medium of claim 10 further comprising computer readable code for confirming the user'"'"'s verbal command input.

14. The computer readable medium of claim 14 wherein the computer readable code for confirming the in-vehicle user'"'"'s selection comprises computer readable code for playing the recording of the user'"'"'s verbal command input.

16. A system for customizing an in-vehicle communication system, the system comprising:

means for receiving a training sequence initiation input from an in-vehicle user;

means for sending at least one command to be trained responsive to the initiation input;

means for receiving a selection input corresponding to the command;

means for sending a prompt for user'"'"'s verbal command input for the command corresponding with the selection input;

means for recording the user'"'"'s verbal command input; and

means for linking the recorded verbal command input with an instruction corresponding with the command.

17. The system of claim 16 further comprising means to confirm the user'"'"'s verbal command- input.

18. The system of claim 17 wherein the means to confirm the user'"'"'s verbal command input further comprises means for playing the recording of the user'"'"'s verbal command input.

19. The system of claim 16 further comprising means for receiving the selection input while providing the list to the in-vehicle user, selecting the command provided immediately preceding the selection input.

20. The system of claim 16 wherein the means for receiving the, selection input comprises means for providing a predetermined list of commands, means for providing the predetermined list of commands to the in-vehicle user, and means for selecting the command provided immediately preceding the selection input.
