1. An antenna diversity transceiver comprising:
- a plurality of antennas;
a switch which selects at least one of said plurality of antennas with a good condition for diversity receiving a signal received from a base station; and
a controller which controls said switch so that said switch selects at least one of said plurality of antennas with a good condition during a standby state before communication.

Abstract
An antenna diversity transceiver selects at least one of a plurality of antennas with a good condition during a standby state before communication. Preferably, the transceiver selects the antennas having the highest reception electric field level when a predetermined user operation, such as opening an upper unit, extending an extendable external antenna, or operating input keys, is detected. The transceiver may select the antennas before the transceiver transmits or receives a signal to or from said based station during a standby state.
