Abstract

Methods for administering devices including receiving a user metric; determining whether a value of the user metric is outside of a predefined metric range; if the value of the user metric is outside of the metric range, identifying an action in dependence upon the user metric; and executing the action

Claims

1. A method for administering devices, the method comprising:

receiving a user metric;

determining whether a value of the user metric is outside of a predefined metric range;

if the value of the user metric is outside of the predefined metric rang, identifying an action in dependence upon the user metric; and

executing the action.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein receiving a user metric comprises receiving a user metric from a metric sensor.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein determining that a value of the user metric is outside of a predefined metric range comprises measuring a degree to which the value of the user metric is outside the predefined metric range.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein identifying an action in dependence upon the user metric comprises identifying an action in dependence upon the degree to which the value of the user metric is outside the predefined metric range.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein identifying an action in dependence upon the user metric includes retrieving an action ID from an action list.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein executing an action includes identifying a device class representing the device.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein executing an action includes identifying a communication class for the device.

8. A system for administering devices, the system comprising:

means for receiving a user metric;

means for determining whether a value of the user metric is outside of a predefined metric range;

if the value of the user metric is outside of the predefined metric range, means for identifying an action in dependence upon the user metric; and

means for executing the action.

9. The system of claim 8 wherein means for receiving a user metric comprises means for receiving a user metric from a metric sensor.

10. The system of claim 8 wherein means for determining that the value of the user metric is outside of a predefined metric range comprises means for measuring a degree to which the value of the user metric is outside the predefined metric range.

11. The system of claim 10 wherein means for identifying an action in dependence upon the user metric comprises means for identifying an action in dependence upon the degree to which the value of the user metric is outside the predefined metric range.

12. The system of claim 8 wherein means for identifying an action in dependence upon the user metric includes means for retrieving an action ID from an action list.

13. The system of claim 8 wherein means for executing an action includes means for identifying a device class representing the device.

14. The system of claim 13 wherein means for executing an action includes means for identifying a communication class for the device.

15. A computer program product for administering devices, the computer program product comprising:

a recording medium;

means, recorded on the recording medium, for receiving a user metric;

means, recorded on the recording medium, for determining whether a value of the user metric is outside of a predefined metric range

if the value of the user metric is outside of the predefined metric range, means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying an action in dependence upon the user metric; and

means, recorded on the recording medium, for executing the action.

16. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein means, recorded on the recording medium, for receiving a user metric comprises means, recorded on the recording medium, for receiving a user metric from a metric sensor.

17. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein means, recorded on the recording medium, for determining that the value of the user metric is outside of a predefined metric range comprises means, recorded on the recording medium, for measuring a degree to which the value of the user metric is outside the predefined metric range.

The computer program product of claim 17 wherein means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying an action in dependence upon the user metric comprises means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying an action in dependence upon the degree to which the value of the user metric is outside the predefined metric range.

19. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying an action in dependence upon the user metric includes means, recorded on the recording medium, for retrieving an action ID from an action list.

20. The computer program product of claim 15 wherein means, recorded on the recording medium, for executing an action includes means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying a device class representing the device.

21. The computer program product of claim 20 wherein means, recorded on the recording medium, for executing an action includes means, recorded on the recording medium, for identifying a communication class for the device.
