Abstract

A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition comprises a coloring material that changes color with curing of 2-cyanoacrylate. The composition has good visibility and excellent workability as it is colored before curing, and changes color with curing as it becomes colorless or light-colored after curing, thereby providing bonded, filled or surface treated portions with good appearance.

Claims

1. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition which comprises a 2-cyanoacrylate with which a coloring material that changes color with curing of the 2-cyanoacrylate is blended.

2. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 1, wherein the coloring material is a compound having a property of changing color with a change of pH.

3. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 2, wherein the coloring material is a pH indicator.

4. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 3, wherein the pH indicator has a color change region which partly or wholly falls under the range of pH 1 to 4.

5. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 3 or 4, wherein the pH indicator is colored on the acidic side, and on the alkaline side, is colorless or more lightly-colored than the acidic side.

A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 1, wherein the coloring material is selected from bromocresol green, bromocresol purple, bromothymol blue, bromophenol blue, bromophenol red, m-cresol purple, o-cresol red, methyl yellow, methyl red, methyl orange, methyl violet, pentamethoxy red, pyrogallol red, and thymol blue.

7. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 6, wherein the coloring material is selected from methyl yellow and methyl red.

8. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 6, wherein the coloring material is pentamethoxy red.

9. 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 1, wherein change of color with curing of 2-cyanoacrylate can be determined visually.

10. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 9, wherein the composition is colored before curing and turns colorless or light-colored after curing;

is colorless or light-colored before curing and turns colored after curing;

or is colored both before and after curing, but colored differently between before and after curing.

11. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 10, wherein the composition is colored before curing and is colorless or light-colored after curing.

12. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 11, wherein the composition is colored before curing and is colorless after curing.

13. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 1, wherein an amount of the coloring material to be blended is from 0.5 to 1,500 ppm by weight based on the 2-cyanoacrylate.

14. A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 13, wherein the amount of the coloring material to be blended is from 5 to 500 ppm by weight based on the 2-cyanoacrylate.

A 2-cyanoacrylate-based composition according to claim 1, wherein the coloring material is selected from the group consisting of bromocresol green, bromocresol purple, bromothymol blue, bromophenol blue, m-cresol purple, o-cresol red, methyl yellow, methyl red, methyl orange, methyl violet, pentamethoxy red, and thymol blue.

15. A method for determining curing of 2-cyanoacrylates, which comprises blending, with a 2-cyanoacrylate, a coloring material that changes color with curing of the 2-cyanoacrylate.

16. A method for determining curing of 2-cyanoacrylates according to claim 15, wherein the coloring material is a pH indicator.

17. A method for determining curing of 2-cyanoacrylates according to claim 16, wherein the pH indicator has a color change region which partly or wholly falls under the range of pH 1 to 4.

18. A method for determining curing of 2-cyanoacrylates according to claim 16 or 17, wherein the pH indicator is colored on the acidic side, and on the alkaline side, is colorless or more lightly-colored than the acidic side.

A method for determining curing of 2-cyanoacrylates according to claim 15, wherein the coloring material is selected from bromocresol green, bromocresol purple, bromothymol blue, bromophenol blue, bromophenol red, m-cresol purple, o-cresol red, methyl yellow, methyl red, methyl orange, methyl violet, pentamethoxy red, pyrogallol red, and thymol blue.

20. A method for determining curing of 2-cyanoacrylates according to claim 19, wherein the coloring material is selected from methyl yellow and methyl red.

21. A method for determining curing of 2-cyanoacrylates according to claim 19, wherein the coloring material is pentamethoxy red.

A method for determining curing of 2-cyanoacrylates according to claim 15, wherein the coloring material is selected from the group consisting of bromocresol green, bromocresol purple, bromothymol blue, bromophenol blue, m-cresol purple, o-cresol red, methyl yellow, methyl red, methyl orange, methyl violet, pentamethoxy red, and thymol blue.

22. An agent for determining curing of 2-cyanoacrylates, which comprises a pH indicator.
