Abstract

The multimedia content presentation system and method includes a preparation component, a deployment component, an interface component and a metrics component. Multimedia content assets and targeted advertising are placed by the preparation component with a hierarchal N×M matrix of display cells. The deployment component uses conventional transmission networks, such as the Internet, broadband cable and wireless phone systems to transmit to the interface component a configuration file defining a matrix of display tiles. The interface component presents and navigates the user through a hierarchy of display palettes, multimedia assets and targeted advertisements on a variety of platforms, such as televisions, personal computers, personal digital assistants and cell phones. The interface component further collects usage data and provides the data to the metrics component for use by the preparation component and the deployment component for targeted content and advertisements.

Claims

1. A system for presentation of multimedia content, comprising:

a preparation component;

a deployment component;

an interface component; and

a metrics component.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the preparation component is configured to schedule multimedia content assets into at least one display palette having N rows and M columns of display tiles.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the preparation component is further configured to create a configuration file that associates the multimedia content assets with the display tiles.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the deployment component is configured to transmit the configuration file to the interface component.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the deployment component and the interface component are configured to interface with a transmission network.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the transmission network is selected from the group consisting of dial-up Internet service providers, broadband Internet service providers, television service providers and wireless service providers.

7. The system of claim 4, wherein the preparation component is further configured to place at least one dynamic advertisement into the configuration file.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the interface component is configured to collect usage data and further configured to provide the usage data to the metrics component, the metrics component is configured to provide the usage data to the deployment component, and the deployment component is configured to use the usage data to associate a specific advertisement with the dynamic advertisement in a display tile.

9. The system of claim 4, wherein the preparation component is further configured to place at least one dynamic content asset into the configuration file.

The system of claim 9, wherein the interface component is configured to collect usage data and further configured to provide the usage data to the metrics component, the metrics component is configured to provide the usage data to the deployment component, and the deployment component is configured to use the usage data to associate a specific content asset with the dynamic content asset.

11. The system of claim 4, wherein the interface component includes a resident application on a view platform having a user input device.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the view platform is selected from the group consisting of personal computers, television systems, personal digital assistants and cell phones.

13. The system of claim 4, wherein the preparation component is configured to schedule a configuration file to define a first palette of N×

M tiles, such that at least one tile in the first palette is associated with another palette of N×

M tiles, wherein the interface component is configured to display each palette of N×

M tiles, and wherein at least one tile in one palette is associated with a multimedia content asset.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the interface component is further configured to present the multimedia content asset in a viewport.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the interface component is further configured to present the multimedia content asset in a full-screen mode.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the interface component is configured to provide a navigation bar having multimedia controls.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein the interface component is further configured to provide a transition animation as each palette is displayed.

18. The system of claim 11, wherein the interface component is further configured to use the input device to select a display tile and to augment the features of the display tile to indicate its selection.

19. A multimedia content interface, comprising:

means for providing a first palette of N×

M tiles;

means for associating a first tile in the first palette with a second palette of N×

M tiles;

means for associating a multimedia content asset with a second tile in the second palette;

means for displaying each palette of N×

M tiles; and

means for displaying the multimedia content asset.

20. A method for presentation of multimedia content, comprising:

providing a preparation component for scheduling multimedia content assets into at least one display palette having N rows and M columns of display tiles, and for creating a configuration file that contains a schedule of multimedia content assets associated with the display tiles;

providing a deployment component for providing the configuration file to a transmission network;

providing an interface component for accepting the configuration file from the transmission network, for presenting each palette of display tiles to a user, and for collecting usage data; and

providing a metrics component for accepting the usage data from the interface component.
