Abstract

A audio data collection and management system is provided for extracting music data from an optical media and managing the music data. The system is configured to extract at least a portion of an initial track of music data at an extracting rate that is different than the recording rate. The system simultaneously records the extracted portion of the initial track of music data to a storage media at the extracting rate while performing the extracting. The system is configured to be implemented in an automobile, a home stereo system, or a personal computer system.

Claims

1. An automobile component audio system, comprising:

a control panel for receiving user input and displaying audio system information;

a control unit connected to the control panel with interface circuitry, the control unit including,

a storage media device;

a compact disc player; and

circuitry for extracting, playing, and recording data, the data being extracted from a compact disc in a compact disc audio format and the data being recorded to a storage media in an audio data file format, and the recording being accomplished while simultaneously providing for playback of the data.

2. The automobile component audio system of claim 1, wherein the storage media is one of a hard disk and an optical storage media.

3. The automobile component audio system of claim 1, wherein the storage media is configured to have recorded thereon a plurality of audio data files for playback, the storage media device being further configured to be removable from the control unit.

4. The automobile component audio system of claim 3, wherein the control panel is configured to receive and to display information from the storage media device about the plurality of audio data files recorded thereon.

5. The automobile component audio system of claim 1, wherein the storage media device is configured to operate as a component of each of the automobile component audio system, a home stereo, and a home computer system.

6. The automobile component audio system of claim 1, wherein the storage media device is capable of recording content downloaded from an Internet location.

7. The automobile component audio system of claim 1, further comprising an encoder/decoder for use in extraction, recording, and playback.

8. The automobile component audio system of claim 1, wherein the extracting of data from a compact disc is at an extracting rate and the recording of data to a storage media is at a recording rate and the extracting rate does not equal the recording rate.

9. The automobile component audio system of claim 1, wherein the extracting rate is faster than the recording rate.

10. An automobile audio system comprising:

a control panel;

a control unit, the control unit configured to receive an optical media player, the optical media player being configured to play audio files from an optical media; and

a storage media device, the storage media device configured to contain a storage media for receiving a plurality of audio data files for playback, the storage media device being removable from the control unit, and being capable of receiving audio data files extracted from the optical media,

wherein the automobile audio system includes an encoder/decoder configured to convert audio information to enable extraction, recording and playback.

11. The automobile audio system of claim 10, wherein the control unit is configured to provide the circuitry to connect the storage media device and the optical media player, the storage media device being configured to receive audio files in audio file format from the optical media player and to record and play back the audio files in audio data file format.

13. An automobile audio system of claim 10, wherein the storage media device is configured to operate as a component of one of an automobile audio system, a home stereo system, and a personal computer system.

14. The automobile audio system of claim 10, wherein the storage media device is a hard drive.

15. The automobile audio system of claim 10, wherein the storage media device is an optical storage media device.

16. The automobile audio system of claim 10, wherein the extraction is at an extraction speed and the playback is at a playback speed, and the extraction speed does not equal the playback speed.

17. The automobile audio system of claim 10, wherein the extraction is at an extraction speed and the recording is at a recording speed, and the extraction speed does not equal the recording speed.

12. The automobile audio system as recited in claim 40, wherein audio data file format includes MP3, and Adaptec CD3 audio data file formats.

18. An audio data collection and management system, comprising:

a control panel for receiving user input and displaying audio system information;

a control unit connected to the control panel with interface circuitry, the control unit including,

a storage media device;

an optical media device; and

circuitry for extracting, fast forwarding, playing, and recording data, the data being extracted from an optical media at an extracting rate and the data being recorded to a storage media at a recording rate, the extracting rate being different than the recording rate.

19. The audio data collection and management system of claim 18, wherein the storage media device is one of a hard disk drive and an optical storage media device.

20. The audio data collection and management system of claim 18, wherein the extracting rate is greater than the recording rate.
