Abstract

A first flow path is defined within a first panel that forms a part of an extracorporeal fluid circuit. A second flow path is defined within a second panel that also forms a part of the extracorporeal fluid circuit. The first and second panels are oriented in a fluid processing cartridge for mounting as an integrated unit on a fluid processing machine and for removal as an integrated unit from the fluid processing machine.

Claims

1. A blood treatment system, comprising:

a blood processing machine having first and second parts that are connected and movable with respect to each other such that they can separate to a loading configuration and come together to an operating configuration;

at least one of said first and second parts having actuators facing the other of said first and second parts at least when in said operating configuration;

a fluid circuit, engageable with said blood processing machine, including blood lines connectable to a patient blood access and fluid lines connectable to a source of fluid used in performing a blood treatment;

at least one support element supporting said blood and fluid lines in an arrangement that aligns respective portions of said fluid circuit with said actuators when said fluid circuit is engaged with said blood processing machine and maintain an alignment thereof when said blood processing machine is placed in said operating configuration.

2. A system as in claim 1, wherein said first part includes a peristaltic pump actuator and said second part includes a pump race that is pressed against a portion of said fluid circuit when said blood processing machine is placed in said operating configuration.

A system as in claim 1, wherein said first part includes a peristaltic pump actuator and said second part includes a pump race that is pressed against a portion of said fluid circuit when said blood processing machine is placed in said operating configuration, said pump race being spring-relieved with respect to said second part.

4. A system as in claim 1, wherein said first part is latched against said second part with said fluid circuit between said first and second parts such that substantially all actuators required for a blood treatment operation are engaged thereby.

5. A system as in claim 1, wherein said fluid circuit includes blood and treatment fluid lines which are pumped by said at least two pump races and/or pump actuators.

6. A system as in claim 1, wherein said fluid circuit includes blood and replacement fluid lines.

7. A blood treatment system, comprising:

a blood processing machine having first and second parts that are mutually opposed in an open configuration and pressed against each other in an operational configuration;

said first and second parts being connected and movable with respect to each other;

at least one of said first and second parts having at least two pump actuators and at least another of said first and second parts having respective pump races;

a fluid circuit, engageable with said blood processing machine, including blood lines connectable to a patient blood access and fluid lines connectable to a source of fluid used in performing a blood treatment;

a latch configured to press said at least two pump actuators respective pump races with said blood and fluid lines therebetween, respectively by bringing said first and second parts together.

8. A system as in claim 7, further comprising at least one support element supporting said blood and fluid lines in an arrangement that aligns respective portions of said fluid circuit with said pump actuators.

9. A system as in claim 7, further comprising a rigid support configured to engage one of said first and second parts during said loading configuration.

10. A system as in claim 7, wherein said fluid circuit includes a support element that engages with at least one of said first and second parts when said blood processing machine is in said open configuration, said support element being configured such that said support element aligns portions of said blood and fluid lines with respect to said support element and such that when said support element is engaged with said at least one of said first and second parts, said portions of said blood and fluid lines are aligned with said at least two pump actuators.

A system as in claim 7, wherein said at least one of said first and second parts supports said at least two pump actuators such that a constant distance between them is maintained both in said open configuration and said operational configuration and said at least another of said first and second parts supports said at least two pump races such that a constant distance between them is maintained both in said open configuration and said operational configuration.

A system as in claim 7, wherein said at least one of said first and second parts supports said at least two pump actuators such that a mutual spacing and orientation between them is not changed both in said open configuration and said operational configuration and said at least another of said first and second parts supports said at least two pump races such that a mutual spacing and orientation between them is not changed both in said open configuration and said operational configuration.

13. A system as in claim 7, wherein said fluid circuit includes blood and treatment fluid lines which are pumped by said at least two pump races and/or pump actuators.

14. A system as in claim 7, wherein said fluid circuit includes blood and replacement fluid lines.

15. A blood processing system, comprising:

a blood treatment machine chassis and door;

at least two pump races and/or pump actuators carried on one of said blood treatment machine chassis and door and at least two complementary pump races and/or pump actuators being carried on the other of said chassis and said door;

the chassis and the door being movably connected and each being rigid such that when said chassis or said door moves relative to the other of said chassis and said door, a corresponding at least two of said at least two pump races and/or pump actuator move correspondingly;

a fluid circuit configured to fit between said chassis and said door;

at least one of said chassis and said door being configured to support said fluid circuit while said chassis and said door are in a mutually spaced position;

said at least two pump races and/or pump actuators pressing against said complementary pump races and/or pump actuators when said chassis and door are moved closer to each other; and

a latch configured to hold said chassis and said door together.

16. A system as in claim 15, wherein said fluid circuit includes blood and treatment fluid lines which are pumped by said at least two pump races and/or pump actuators.

17. A system as in claim 15, wherein said fluid circuit includes blood and replacement fluid lines.

18. A system as in claim 15, wherein said blood treatment machine chassis includes a pressure sensor that senses pressure by direct contact with an outside of said fluid circuit.

19. A system as in claim 15, wherein said blood treatment machine chassis is connected to said door by rails.

20. A system as in claim 15, wherein fluid circuit includes a tray-shaped support element, said blood treatment machine chassis is connected to said door by rails, and said tray-shaped support element rests thereby to support said fluid circuit while said chassis and said door are in said mutually spaced position.
