Abstract

In certain embodiments, a system for configuring a servlet-based component as a dynamic content component includes a first server system comprising a dynamic component operable to gather configuration information in response to a request to access a servlet-based component associated with a second server system. The system further includes a connection servlet invoked by the dynamic component and operable to establish a connection with the servlet-based component associated with the second server system based at least in part on the gathered configuration information, and to handle communication with the servlet-based component on the second server system based at least in part on the gathered configuration information.

Claims

1. A system for configuring a servlet-based component as a dynamic content component, comprising:

a first server system comprising a dynamic component operable to gather configuration information in response to a request to access a servlet-based component associated with a second server system;

a connection servlet invoked by the dynamic component and operable to;

establish a connection with the servlet-based component associated with the second server system based at least in part on the gathered configuration information; and

handle communication with the servlet-based component on the second server system based at least in part on the gathered configuration information.

The system of claim 1, wherein the configuration information comprises user preference and configuration information for the servlet-based component associated with the second server system, the connection servlet being operable to configure the servlet-based component on the second server system based on the gather configuration information.

The system of claim 1, wherein the configuration information comprises configuration information for the second server system, the connection servlet being operable to establish the connection with the servlet-based component on the second server system based on the gathered configuration information for the second server system.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the dynamic component comprises a Java class.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the first server system comprises a portal server system operable to provide services to one or more user systems coupled to the first server system.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the connection servlet is further operable to:

create the connection with one or more proxy settings; and

modify one or more related links in response code communicated from the servlet-based component on the second server system as a view page for a portal environment associated with the first server system.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the connection servlet is operable to modify the one or more related links in the response code to be one or more uniform resource locator links associated with the second server system.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the servlet-based component on the second server system comprises one or more of:

a Java Server Pages (JSP);

a servlet-based portlet; and

a web application.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the servlet-based component on the second server system comprises a portlet component that provides one or more application program interfaces that expose configurable functionality in a portal environment associated with the first server system, the configuration information comprising user preference and login information, the connection servlet on the first server system operable to:

communicate the gathered user preference and login information to the servlet-based component on the second server system; and

request services on a back-end server system associated with the second server system.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the connection servlet is further operable to propagate one or more headers and one or more parameters between one or more servlet-based components and the connection.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the connection comprises a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) connection.

12. A method for configuring a servlet-based component as a dynamic content component, comprising:

gathering at a first server system configuration information in response to a request to access a servlet-based component associated with a second server system;

invoking a connection servlet to establish a connection with the servlet-based component associated with the second server system based at least in part on the gathered configuration information and to handle communication with the servlet-based component on the second server system based at least in part on the gathered configuration information.

The method of claim 12, wherein the configuration information comprises user preference and configuration information for the servlet-based component associated with the second server system, the connection servlet being operable to configure the servlet-based component on the second server system based on the gather configuration information.

14. The method of claim 12, wherein:

the configuration information comprises configuration information for the second server system; and

the method comprises, using the connection servlet, establishing the connection with the servlet-based component on the second server system based on the gathered configuration information for the second server system.

15. The method of claim 12, wherein a dynamic component for gathering the configuration information comprises a Java class.

16. The method of claim 12, wherein the first server system comprises a portal server system operable to provide services to one or more user systems coupled to the first server system.

17. The method of claim 12, further comprising, using the connection servlet:

creating the connection with one or more proxy settings; and

modifying one or more related links in response code communicated from the servlet-based component on the second server system as a view page for a portal environment associated with the first server system.

18. The method of claim 17, comprising, using the connection servlet, modifying the one or more related links in the response code to be one or more uniform resource locator links associated with the second server system.

19. The method of claim 12, wherein the servlet-based component on the second server system comprises one or more of:

a Java Server Pages (JSP);

a servlet-based portlet; and

a web application.

20. The method of claim 12, wherein:

the servlet-based component on the second server system comprises a portlet component that provides one or more application program interfaces that expose configurable functionality in a portal environment associated with the first server system;

the configuration information comprises user preference and login information; and

the method further comprises;

using the connection servlet, communicate the gathered user preference and login information to the servlet-based component on the second server system; and

using the connection servlet, requesting services on a back-end server system associated with the second server system.

21. The method of claim 12, further comprising, using the connection servlet, propagating one or more headers and one or more parameters between one or more servlet-based components and the connection.

22. The method of claim 12, wherein the connection comprises a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) connection.

33. The software of claim 22, wherein the connection comprises a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) connection.

23. A software for configuring a servlet-based component as a dynamic content component, the software being embodied in computer-readable media and when executed operable to:

gather at a first server system configuration information in response to a request to access a servlet-based component associated with a second server system;

invoke a connection servlet to establish a connection with the servlet-based component associated with the second server system based at least in part on the gathered configuration information and to handle communication with the servlet-based component on the second server system based at least in part on the gathered configuration information.

The software of claim 23, wherein the configuration information comprises user preference and configuration information for the servlet-based component associated with the second server system, the connection servlet being operable to configure the servlet-based component on the second server system based on the gather configuration information.

25. The software of claim 23, wherein:

the configuration information comprises configuration information for the second server system; and

the software is operable to, using the connection servlet, establish the connection with the servlet-based component on the second server system based on the gathered configuration information for the second server system.

26. The software of claim 23, comprising a Java class.

27. The software of claim 23, wherein the first server system comprises a portal server system operable to provide services to one or more user systems coupled to the first server system.

28. The software of claim 23, operable to, using the connection servlet:

create the connection with one or more proxy settings; and

modify one or more related links in response code communicated from the servlet-based component on the second server system as a view page for a portal environment associated with the first server system.

29. The software of claim 28, operable to, using the connection servlet, modify the one or more related links in the response code to be one or more uniform resource locator links associated with the second server system.

30. The software of claim 23, wherein the servlet-based component on the second server system comprises one or more of:

a Java Server Pages (JSP);

a servlet-based portlet; and

a web application.

31. The software of claim 23, wherein:

the servlet-based component on the second server system comprises a portlet component that provides one or more application program interfaces that expose configurable functionality in a portal environment associated with the first server system;

the configuration information comprising user preference and login information; and

the connection is operable to, using the connection servlet;

communicate the gathered user preference and login information to the servlet-based component on, the second server system; and

request services on a back-end server system associated with the second server system.

32. The software of claim 23, further operable to, using the connection servlet, propagate one or more headers and one or more parameters between one or more servlet-based components and the connection.

34. A system for configuring a servlet-based component as a dynamic content component, comprising:

means for gathering at a first server system configuration information in response to a request to access a servlet-based component associated with a second server system;

means for invoking a connection servlet to establish a connection with the servlet-based component associated with the second server system based at least in part on the gathered configuration information and to handle communication with the servlet-based component on the second server system based at least in part on the gathered configuration information.
