1. A reaction system for use in filament winding comprising:

  • a. an organic polyisocyanate;

    b. an organic polyfunctional active hydrogen resin containing a plurality of active hydrogen groups that are reactive towards organically bound isocyanate groups; and

    c. optionally, a catalyst that promotes the reaction of organically bound isocyanate groups with active hydrogen groups, wherein the reaction system is substantially free of styrene, methyl methacrylate, and organic resins or organic monomers boiling at less than 185°

    C. at 1 atmosphere pressure;

    wherein the number averaged functionality of the organic polyisocyanate or the organic polyfunctional active hydrogen resin is greater than two;

    wherein the reaction system exhibits a gel time of 1500 seconds or greater, as measured from the completion of mixing at 25°

    C.; and

    wherein the reaction system exhibits a gel time from 25 to 45 seconds, as measured from the completion of mixing at 45°

    C.
