Abstract

A display apparatus and a method of control of a display apparatus selectively displaying one of a plurality of signals provided from a plurality of external signal sources including receiving a selection signal indicating a selection of one of the external signal sources and supplying power to the display apparatus according to the selection signal of the signal source, and displaying a signal provided by the corresponding signal source. The display apparatus and a control method provide a prompt and easy selection of a desired signal.

Claims

1. A method of control of a display apparatus selectively displaying one of a plurality of signals provided from a plurality of external signal sources, comprising:

receiving a selection signal selecting one of the external signal sources;

supplying power to the display apparatus according to the received selection signal; and

displaying a signal provided by the corresponding signal source.

2. The method of control of the display apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the plurality of signals includes a signal applied by at least one of a video card, a TV video signal, a DVD (Digital Versatile Display Disk) video signal, and a VTR (Video Tape Recorder) video signal.

3. The method of control of the display apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising detecting the selection signal of the signal source provided from a remote control.

4. The method of control of the display apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising displaying an On Screen Display (OSD) message presenting a selection result of the signal source when the selection signal of the signal source is entered.

5. The method of control of the display apparatus according to claim 4, further comprising,

checking whether the signal is provided from the selected signal source;

and

displaying an On Screen Display (OSD) message indicating that the selected signal is not provided within a predetermined time.

6. A display apparatus selectively for displaying one of a plurality of signals provided from a plurality of external signal sources, comprising:

a power supply;

a selector to select each of the plurality of external signal sources;

an signal processor to process the signal from each of the plurality of external signal sources; and

a controller to control the power supply to supply power to the display apparatus and to control the signal processor to display the signal from the selected signal source corresponding to a selection made in the selector.

7. The display apparatus according to claim 6, wherein the signal includes one of a video signal applied by a video card, a TV video signal, a DVD (Digital Versatile Display Disk) player video signal, and a VTR (Video Tape Recorder) video signal.

8. The display apparatus according to claim 6, wherein the selector comprises:

a plurality of key buttons to select each of the signal sources,

a remote control signal transmitter, and

a remote control signal controller transmitting a control signal according to a selection of the signal source by the key buttons to the display apparatus through the remote control signal transmitter.

The display apparatus according to claim 6, further comprising, an OSD (On Screen Display) generator generating an OSD signal, wherein the controller controls the OSD generator to display an OSD message presenting a result of the selection for the signal source when the signal source is selected through the selector.

The display apparatus according to claim 9, wherein the controller checks whether the signal is provided from the selected signal source when the signal source is selected through the selector, and controls the OSD generator to display an error message upon the signal not being provided within a predetermined time.

11. A method of control of a display apparatus selectively displaying a signal provided from a plurality of signal sources, the method comprising:

selecting one of the plurality of signal sources;

supplying power to the display apparatus; and

displaying an On Screen Display message indicating the selected signal source.

12. The method according to claim 11, wherein the displaying an On Screen Display message further includes displaying one of a signal from the selected signal source or displaying an error message indicating a signal from the selected signal source is not provided within a predetermined time.

13. The method according to claim 11, wherein the signal provided from the plurality of signal sources includes at least one video signal from a video card, a TV video signal, a DVD (Digital Display Disk) video signal, and a VTR (Video Tape Recorder) video signal.

14. A display apparatus selectively for displaying a signal provided from a plurality of signal sources, comprising:

a selector to select the signal source from which the signal is to be displayed;

a signal processor to process the selected signal;

a display to display the processed signal and at least one On Screen Display message; and

a controller to control a supply of power to the display apparatus, to control the signal processor to display the selected signal, and to control the display of the OSD message.

15. The display apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the On Screen Display message includes at least one of a message indicating the selected signal source and an error message if the signal to be displayed is not provided from the selected signal source within a predetermined time.

16. The display apparatus according to claim 14, wherein the signal includes a video signal applied by a video card, a TV video signal, a DVD (Digital Versatile Display Disk) player video signal, and a VTR (Video Tape Recorder) video signal.

17. A computer-readable medium encoded with processing instructions implementing a method of control of a display apparatus selectively displaying one of a plurality of signals provided from a plurality of external signal sources, the method comprising:

receiving a selection signal selecting one of the external signal sources;

supplying power to the display apparatus according to the received selection signal; and

displaying a signal provided by the corresponding signal source.

18. The computer-readable medium according to claim 17, wherein the plurality of signals includes a signal applied by at least one of a video card, a TV video signal, a DVD (Digital Display Disk) video signal, and a VTR (Video Tape Recorder) video signal.

19. The computer-readable medium according to claim 17, wherein the method further comprises detecting the selection signal of the signal source provided from a remote control.

20. The computer-readable medium according to claim 17, wherein the method further comprises displaying an On Screen Display (OSD) message presenting a selection result of the signal source when the selection signal of the signal source is entered.

21. The computer-readable medium according to claim 20, wherein the method further comprises:

checking whether the signal is provided from the selected signal source; and

displaying an On Screen Display (OSD) message indicating that the selected signal is not provided within a predetermined time.
