Abstract

The present invention comprises systems and methods for cellular, PCS, GPS and/or Bluetooth mobile communication (e.g., a mobile telephone). The systems and methods employ a fully integrated dual band IFA/loop CDMA antenna for cellular and PCS communication. Fully integrating the CDMA antenna within a PWB provides for mitigation of lumped elements to establish dual banding, and can provide for reduced antenna size, device size, cost and interference form a user'"'"'s hand. The IFA antenna is configured to transmit and receive within the cellular frequency band via a capacitive tap, and the loop antenna is configured to transmit and receive within the PCS frequency band via an impedance matching stub and ground location. The system and methods further employ a firewall to mitigate antenna coupling, and a metal reflector to reduce the electromagnetic reflection, and improve antenna gain and efficiency.

Claims

1. A device for a mobile communication, the device comprising:

a fully integrated CDMA antenna, wherein said CDMA antenna comprises an IFA antenna and a loop antenna;

a GPS antenna; and

,

a firewall to mitigate coupling between antennas.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein the IFA antenna configured to transmit and receive signals within the cellular frequency band.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein the loop antenna configured to transmit and receive signals within the PCS frequency band.

4. The device of claim 1, wherein the GPS antenna comprising a GPS assembly operatively coupled to a PWB.

5. The device of claim 4, wherein the GPS assembly comprising at least a radiator to receive signals, a carrier to house the radiator, and a spring contact to interface to the PWB.

6. The device of claim 4, wherein the PWB comprising at least a gamma match and a spring contact point to facilitate coupling the GPS assembly to the PWB.

7. The device of claim 6, wherein the spring contact point providing a single contact for GPS assembly mounting, wherein the spring contact point further facilitates constructing the IFA antenna.

8. The device of claim 6, wherein the gamma match further providing for GPS antenna impedance matching.

9. The device of claim 5, wherein the radiator constructed of sheet metal.

10. The device of claim 5, wherein the carrier constructed of plastic.

11. The device of claim 1, wherein the mobile terminal employed in a side phone configuration.

12. The device of claim 1, employed with at least one of Enhanced Data-Rates for GSM Revolution (EDGE), Global System for Mobile (GSM), Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), CDMA derivative such as CDMA2000, WCDMA and TD-SCDMA, cellular service, Personal Communication Service (PCS), Global Personal Systems (GPS), GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), Bluetooth and Wi-Fi/WLAN technologies.

13. A mobile communication system, comprising:

a fully integrated dual frequency CDMA antenna, wherein the dual frequency CDMA antenna comprises an IFA antenna and a loop antenna;

a GPS antenna;

a Bluetooth antenna to communicate with one or more devices employing Bluetooth technology; and

,

a PWB, wherein the CDMA, GPS and Bluetooth antennas are operatively coupled to the PWB.

14. The system of claim 13, further comprising at least one firewall to mitigate coupling between antennas.

15. The system of claim 14, the firewall constructed 8 mm in length.

16. The system of claim 15, the firewall constructed of metal such as copper.

17. The system of claim 13, the IFA antenna employing a capacitive tap to facilitate configuring the IFA antenna to transmit and receive signals within the cellular frequency band.

18. The system of claim 13, the loop antenna employing an impedance matching stub to match antenna impedance and to facilitate configuring the loop antenna to transmit and receive signals within the PCS frequency band.

19. The system of claim 13, the GPS antenna employing a gamma match to facilitate configuring the IFA antenna to receive signals.

20. The system of claim 19, the GPS antenna comprising a GPS assembly, wherein the GPS assembly comprises a spring contact that is operatively couplet to a spring contact point on the PWB.

21. The system of claim 20, the spring contact point providing a single contact for GPS assembly mounting and facilitating IFA antenna construction.

22. The system of claim 13, employed with at least one of Enhanced Data-Rates for GSM Revolution (EDGE), Global System for Mobile (GSM), Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), CDMA derivative such as CDMA2000, WCDMA and TD-SCDMA, cellular service, Personal Communication Service (PCS), Global Personal Systems (GPS), GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), Bluetooth and Wi-Fi/WLAN technologies.

23. A mobile communication apparatus, comprising:

a PWB with a fully integrated CDMA antenna operable with plurality of frequencies, a GPS antenna, and a Bluetooth antenna therein;

a reflector coupled to the PWB;

a mobile communication device shell to enclose the PWB; and

,

a cover to facilitate securing the PWB within the mobile communication device shell.

24. The system of claim 23, the CDMA antenna comprising an inverted-F antenna (IFA) and a loop antenna.

25. The system of claim 24, the IFA antenna configured to transmit and receive signals within the cellular frequency band.

26. The system of claim 24, the loop antenna configured to transmit and receive signals within the PCS frequency band.

27. The system of claim 23, the reflector employed to reduce the amount of electromagnetic reflection.

28. The system of claim 23, the mobile communication device shell employed in a side phone configuration.
