Abstract

The present invention provides a system and method for providing notification on remote devices. In architecture, the system includes a computer device for performing the operation. The computer device comprises a message send module that sends a message to the remote device using an IP transmission means and a determination module that determines that the message sent by the IP transmission means was not received by the remote device. Moreover, the computer device further comprises a resend module that resends the message automatically using a SMS transmission means. The present invention can also be viewed as a method for providing notification on remote devices. The method operates by (1) sending a message to the remote device using a IP transmission means; (2) determining that the message sent by the IP transmission means was not received by the remote device; and (3) resending the message automatically using a SMS transmission means.

Claims

1. A method for providing notification to an internet protocol (IP) and short message service (SMS) capable remote device, comprising the steps of:

sending a message to the remote device using a IP transmission means;

determining that the message sent by the IP transmission means was not received by the remote device; and

resending the message automatically using a SMS transmission means.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the message is a notice message.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the message is encrypted.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

waiting a predetermined time period before resending the message using the SMS transmission means.

5. A method for providing notification to a short message service (SMS) capable remote device, comprising the steps of:

sending a notification message to the remote device using a SMS transmission means;

resending the notification message after waiting a predetermined time period using the SMS transmission means if the notification message sent was not received; and

repeating the resending step of the notification message after waiting an increased predetermined time period.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the message is encrypted.

7. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

terminating the resending step after a predetermined number of retries.

8. A method for providing notification to an internet protocol (IP) and short message service (SMS) capable remote device, comprising the steps of:

acquiring a message to be transmitted to the remote device;

sending a notification message indicating that a action is pending for the remote device using a IP transmission means;

determining that the message sent by the IP transmission means was not received by the remote device; and

resending the message automatically using a SMS transmission means.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

repeating the resending step of the notification message after waiting an increased predetermined time period.

10. A method for providing notification to an internet protocol (IP) capable remote device, comprising the steps of:

providing a connection from the remote device;

determining if the remote device is not directly addressable and maintain the connection for future notification messages;

recording the address of the remote device before dropping the connection if it is determined that the remote device is directly addressable; and

reestablishing the connection to the remote device using the address.

11. A system that provides notification to an internet protocol (IP) and short message service (SMS) capable remote device, comprising:

a message send module that sends a message to the remote device using a IP transmission means;

a determination module that determines that the message sent by the IP transmission means was not received by the remote device; and

a resend module that resends the message automatically using a SMS transmission means.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the message is a notice message.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein the message is encrypted.

14. The system of claim 11, further comprising:

a module that waits a predetermined time period before resending the message using the SMS transmission means.

17. The system of claim 11, further comprising:

a termination module that terminates the resending of the notification message after a predetermined number of retries.

15. A system that provides notification to a short message service (SMS) capable remote device, comprising:

a message send module that sends a notification message to the remote device using a SMS transmission means;

a resend module that resends the notification message after waiting a predetermined time period using the SMS transmission means if the notification message sent was not received; and

a repeat send module that resends the notification message after waiting an increased predetermined time period.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the message is encrypted.

18. A system that provides notification to an internet protocol (IP) and short message service (SMS) capable remote device, comprising the steps of:

a message receive module to acquire a message to be transmitted to the remote device;

a send module that sends a notification message indicating that an action is pending for the remote device using a IP transmission means;

determining that the message sent by the IP transmission means was not received by the remote device; and

resending the message automatically using a SMS transmission means.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the message is encrypted.

20. A system that provides notification to an internet protocol (IP) capable remote device, comprising the steps of:

a connection module that provides for a connection from the remote device;

a determination module that determines if the remote device is not directly addressable and maintains the connection for future notification messages;

a recording module that records the address of the remote device before dropping the connection if it is determined that the remote device is directly addressable; and

a module that re-establishes the connection to the remote device using the address.

21. A computer readable medium for a logic that provides notification to an internet protocol (IP) and short message service (SMS) capable remote device, comprising:

logic for sending a message to the remote device using a IP transmission means;

logic for determining that the message sent by the IP transmission means was not received by the remote device; and

logic for resending the message automatically using a SMS transmission means.

22. The computer readable medium of claim 21, wherein the message is a notice message.

23. The computer readable medium of claim 21, wherein the message is encrypted.

24. The computer readable medium of claim 21, further comprising:

logic for waiting a predetermined time period before resending the message using the SMS transmission means.

25. A computer readable medium for a logic that provides notification to a short message service (SMS) capable remote device comprising:

logic for sending a notification message to the remote device using a SMS transmission means;

logic for resending the notification message after waiting a predetermined time period using the SMS transmission means if the notification message sent was not received; and

logic for repeating the resending of the notification message after waiting an increased predetermined time period.

26. The computer readable medium of claim 25, wherein the message is encrypted.

27. The computer readable medium of claim 25, further comprising:

logic for terminating the resending of the notification message after a predetermined number of retries.

28. A computer readable medium for a logic that provides notification to an internet protocol (IP) and short message service (SMS) capable remote device, comprising:

logic for acquiring a message to be transmitted to the remote device;

logic for sending a notification message indicating that a action is pending for the remote device using a IP transmission means;

logic for determining that the message sent by the IP transmission means was not received by the remote device; and

logic for resending the message automatically using a SMS transmission means.

29. The computer readable medium of claim 28, further comprising:

logic for repeating the resending step of the notification message after waiting an increased predetermined time period.

30. A computer readable medium for a logic that provides notification to an internet protocol (IP) capable remote device, comprising:

logic for providing a connection from the remote device;

logic for determining if the remote device is not directly addressable and maintain the connection for future notification messages;

logic for recording the address of the remote device before dropping the connection if it is determined that the remote device is directly addressable; and

logic for re-establishing the connection to the remote device using the address.

31. A system for providing notification to an internet protocol (IP) and short message service (SMS) capable remote device, comprising:

logic for sending a message to the remote device using a IP transmission means;

logic for determining that the message sent by the IP transmission means was not received by the remote device; and

logic for resending the message automatically using a SMS transmission means.

32. The system of claim 31, wherein the message is a notice message.

33. The system of claim 31, wherein the message is encrypted.

34. The system of claim 31, further comprising:

means for waiting a predetermined time period before resending the message using the SMS transmission means.

35. A system for providing notification to a short message service (SMS) capable remote device comprising:

means for sending a notification message to the remote device using a SMS transmission means;

means for resending the notification message after waiting a predetermined time period using the SMS transmission means if the notification message sent was not received; and

means for repeating the resending of the notification message after waiting an increased predetermined time period.

36. The system of claim 35, wherein the message is encrypted.

37. The system of claim 35, further comprising:

means for terminating the resending of the notification message after a predetermined number of retries.

38. A system for providing notification to an internet protocol (IP) and short message service (SMS) capable remote device, comprising:

means for acquiring a message to be transmitted to the remote device;

means for sending a notification message indicating that a action is pending for the remote device using a IP transmission means;

means for determining that the message sent by the IP transmission means was not received by the remote device; and

means for resending the message automatically using a SMS transmission means.

39. The system of claim 38, further comprising:

means for repeating the resending step of the notification message after waiting an increased predetermined time period.

40. A system for providing notification to an internet protocol (IP) capable remote device, comprising:

means for providing a connection from the remote device;

means for determining if the remote device is not directly addressable and maintain the connection for future notification messages;

means for recording the address of the remote device before dropping the connection if it is determined that the remote device is directly addressable; and

means for re-establishing the connection to the remote device using the address.
