Method and means for increasing inherent channel capacity for wired network
First Claim
1. A communication system comprising:
- a service provider providing a communication signal through a gateway, wherein the communication signal is multiplexed in order to route information; and
means for receiving an output signal from the gateway and enhancing the output signal using an iterative process which substantially lowers an amount of internal noise present in the output signal, wherein the enhancement of the output signal is recognized by significant improvement in a digital error rate of the communication signal and increased channel density.

Abstract
A receive system and method providing enhanced Signal to Noise performance is applicable to a wide variety of applications including both wireless and wireline systems which further include packetized-types of communications, such as the Internet. Received signals are converted to digital values and stored in a manner which enables subsequent processing directed to improving the resolution of the received signals and to reduce the associated noise corresponding to the received data samples. The Signal-to-Noise ratio of the received data signals is improved as a result of processing techniques made possible by the digitally stored nature of the received data and a unique iterative data processing method.

10. A method for enhancing data reliability in a packetized data system, said method comprising:
-
receiving one or more digital data signals on one or more respective wires, wherein the digital data signals comprise packetized data;
storing signal-plus-noise samples of the received digital data signals in a memory device, wherein each of the stored samples represents a corresponding sample of the received digital data signal and a corresponding arbitrary amount of noise;
forming at least one matrix from the stored signal-plus-noise samples, wherein the matrix comprises left and right topological groupings of different samples about a topocentric reference that corresponds to a zero voltage injection from stored voltage value injection patterns that comprise incremental successively increasing positive and negative values in each of a plurality of rows, each row having similar increments with the same topocentric zero reference;
performing an iterative process on the samples contained in the matrix, wherein the iterative process converges to determine an estimate of the magnitude and polarity of the noise portion of the signal-plus-noise sample; and
subtracting each estimated noise value from the stored signal-plus-noise sample to obtain a noise-reduced sample. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13)
