Abstract

Systems and techniques are disclosed relating to communications. The systems and techniques include receiving an origination request for a call, determining whether the call is allowed on each of a plurality of wireless networks as a function of the origination request, and originating the call over a network selected from a plurality of networks. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract which will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or the meaning of the claims.

Claims

1. A method of communications, comprising:

receiving an origination request for a call;

selecting a communications network from a plurality of communications networks;

accessing information to determine as a function of the origination request and the information that the call is allowed on the selected communications network; and

originating the call over the selected communications network.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein at least a portion of the information is accessed from at least one of a SIM card, a R-UIM card, and a USIM card.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the call origination request comprises an indication that the call is an emergency call.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising indicating that the call is allowed on each one of the plurality of communications networks.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the call origination request comprises a dialing string input.

6. The method of claim 5 further comprising altering the dialing string before originating the call.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein the altering of the dialing string comprises replacing the dialing string with a new dialing string.

8. The method of claim 6 wherein the altering of the dialing string comprises replacing the dialing string with a service request code.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising indicating that the call is allowed on the selected communications network.

10. A method of communications, comprising:

receiving an origination request for a call;

selecting a communications network from a plurality of communications networks;

accessing information to determine as a function of the origination request and the information that the call is not allowed on the selected communications network; and

preventing the call from being originated over the selected communications network.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein at least a portion of the information is accessed from at least one of a SIM card, a R-UIM card, and a USIM card.

12. Computer readable media embodying a program of instructions executable by a computer program to perform a method of communications, the method comprising:

receiving an origination request for a call;

selecting a communications network from a plurality of communications networks;

accessing information to determine as a function of the origination request and the information whether the call is allowed on the selected communications network; and

originating the call over the selected communications network if the call is determined to be allowed, and preventing the call from being originated over the selected communications network if the call is determined not to be allowed.

13. The computer readable media of claim 12 wherein at least a portion of the information is accessed from at least one of a SIM card, a R-UIM card, or a USIM card.

14. The computer readable media of claim 12 wherein the call origination request comprises an indication that the call is an emergency call.

15. The computer readable media of claim 14 wherein the method further comprises indicating that the call is allowed on each one of the plurality of communications networks.

16. The computer readable media of claim 12 wherein the call origination request comprises a dialing string input.

17. The computer readable media of claim 16 wherein the method further comprises altering the dialing string before originating the call.

18. The computer readable media of claim 17 wherein the altering of the dialing string comprises replacing the dialing string with a new dialing string.

19. The computer readable media of claim 17 wherein the altering of the dialing string comprises replacing the dialing string with a service request code.

20. The computer readable media of claim 12 wherein the method further comprises indicating that the call is allowed on the selected communications network.

21. A communications device, comprising:

an input device configured to receive an origination request for a call;

a memory device for storing information;

a processor configured to select a communications network from a plurality of communications networks, access the information and determine as a function of the origination request and the information whether the call is allowed on the selected communications network, originate the call over the selected communications network if the processor determines that the call is allowed, and prevent the call from being originated over the selected communications network if the processor determines that the call is not allowed.

22. The communications device of claim 21 wherein the processor comprises at least one of a SIM card, a R-UIM card, and a USIM card, said at least one of the cards having at least a portion of the information accessed by the processor.

23. The communications device of claim 21 wherein the call origination request comprises an indication that the call is an emergency call.

24. The communications device of claim 23 wherein the processor is further configured to indicate that the call is allowed on each one of the plurality of communications networks.

25. The communications device of claim 21 wherein the call origination request comprises a dialing string input.

26. The communications device of claim 25 wherein the processor is further configured to alter the dialing string before originating the call.

27. The communications device of claim 26 wherein the processor is further configured to alter the dialing string by replacing the dialing string with a new dialing string.

28. The communications device of claim 26 wherein the processor is further configured to alter the dialing string by replacing the dialing string with a service request code.

29. A communications device, comprising:

means for receiving an origination request for a call;

means for selecting a communications network from a plurality of communications networks;

means for accessing information to determine as a function of the origination request and the information, whether the call is allowed on the selected communications network;

means for originating the call over the selected communications network if the call is determined to be allowed; and

means for preventing the call over the selected communications network if the call is determined not be allowed.
